I wouldn't normally think to praise Pat Buchanan for his views, but after seeing his interview on the Bill Maher show, I can't help but quote him.

"I think the President did the right thing in having to go into Afghanistan and take down the Taliban and go after Osama bin Laden. They had come over to our country and killed our people. I think where we made a mistake was invading a sovereign country. It was led by a thug and a criminal, but they had had no role in 9/11. They did not want war with us. They did not attack us. They could not injure the United States of America . And we sent an army up to Baghdad . And as I warned the president again and again, in columns in our new magazine, “Look, we're going to get up there, and after three weeks, we're going to inherit our own West Bank, only it's going to be 25 million Iraqis.” And that's exactly what's happened."

If even Buchanan, senior advisor to Nixon, Ford, and Reagan, can see that our invasion of Iraq had nothing to do with 9/11 and our 'war on terror', why can't other Republicans see it? Why so much support for the war in Iraq at the RNC?

Dang, and I thought the only way Buchanan would see the light is if someone shone it in his eyes.

Minor quibble....the Taliban, also a bunch of unpleasant bastards, and definately friends of the accused, didn't attack us either. Still, that I have only a minor quibble with Buchanan makes my world tilt a bit. ;)

I'm struggling with it as well...might even have to go out and find his book, "Where the Right Went Wrong"

Buchanan and several Republican figures oppose the Iraq war, and they're quite articulate at
www.antiwar.com.

I like Justin Raimondo, for example.

They tend to ascribe to Israel a great role in getting Washington to fight the war. And there's something to this, as some of the 'spying' issues come to light. It's true that Dubya gives Sharon a green light on anything S pleases.

Unfortunately a few, including Buchanan in the past, have pushed further, perilously close to the 'world Jewish conspiracy' type of thinking, which is 'over the top' and wacky.
