Broken Pieces (closed)

“Nope right on time” He said grinning and letting her in his eyes traveling up and down her frame. Wow she was even prettier than at the restaurant. He couldn’t stop staring at her as he took her coat and let her into his house.

“I have to say your prettier than a Texas sunrise” He said blushing a little at his country boy thoughts before clearing his throat “right this way darling” he said leading her into the kitchen where dinner was waiting.

“dinners just about done” He said moving over and grabing her glass of wine “here you go darling” he said handing her the glass before clinking his own against it.

“To new beginnings” he said trying ot resist the urge to kiss her “I hope you like chicken” he called going over to the kitchen “make your self at home”

Despite herself, Sarah couldn't help but blush at his comment about how she looked. She was flattered. "You look great yourself."

"I love chicken...it smells great. Probably a lot better than what I would have done myself." She entered his home and removed her jacket, which he took and hung up by the door.

He handed her a glass of wine and they toasted. She repeated his toast and raised her glass before taking a sip of the smooth tasting wine. If there was one thing Sarah knew, it was wine. Hell, she even had a dream of opening her own winery one day.

She turned to face him, clasping her hands behind her. "So, again, thanks for leaving your number. I'm glad you did."

“Ha not much of a cook I take it?” He countered watching as she drank the wine. He got the sense that she was knowledgeable on wine or a bit of a conesuir and smiled chalking it up as some thing else they had in common “I was used to home cooking from my mama Navy food just doesn’t cut it so I asked her for some recipes fell in love with cooking and pursued it as a side hobby” He explained asking a sip of his own wine and coming back over to her.

“Thank you for calling me” He said right back smiling at her “It’s not some thing I do but I couldn’t help my self with you there was just some thing about you some thing that drew me in” he explained taking a sip of his wine before setting it down. He guided her to the couch and sat down across from her leaning back and giving her a small smile.

“So besides working at a diner what are your interest?” He asked raising an eyebrow curious about her.

Hell, it was different answering his questions face to face than over the phone because he would see her facial expressions but Sarah kept a cool head about her, "Well, let's see," she laughed a little before answering, "I guess it would have to be reading...I hope that doesn't make me sound boring... but other than that, I'm really a simple person. It doesn't take a lot to entertain me. I mostly just work a lot, go home and do it all again the next day."

She took a sip and shrugged, "I also like movies, taking long drives and learning about historical sites."

“Not even remotely” He said shaking his head and leaning in “I love to read I do that every chance I get to me there isn’t any thing better than curling up with a good book and relaxing I try to read every day and if not I usually read even more the next day I’m more or less a simple person as well I prefer to be at home as much as possible I’m a movie buff as well” He said smiling at her.

“The simple things are the best for me as well” he admitted finding himself drawn to this girl more and more. There was just some thing about her some thing that made her easily approachable. He felt himself relaxing for the first time in a while in a social setting and gave her a warm and friendly smile.

“Dinner should be done” He said getting up and pulling out the chicken “go ahead while I carve this up” he said nodding at the chair and getting their plates prepared.

Sarah forced herself to relax. This wasn't an interrogation after all. Just a nice evening and dinner with someone she had met and talked to for a little the night prior. He seemed extremely nice and polite and respectful.

Yet, something in the back of her mind kept telling her to be wary but of course, she shut that part out. She took another sip of wine and that seemed to relax her a little more.

So, Sarah took a seat at the table and watched as he worked. He had a way with a knife as he expertly carved up the chicken and placed some servings on the plates before serving it up and taking a seat himself.

"Wow, this does look great , thank you Alex," she said, smiling warmly at him.

“Thank you” He said smiling and waiting for her to take the first bite before eating himself. His mother had taught him manners first and foremost and he made sure to follow them to the letter. The chicken was cooked perfectly and the veggies went with it well so he allowed him self to relax and instead enjoy her company. He ate in silence for a few minutes reflecting that it was going well and he hadn’t had an episode yet. Of course thinking about having an episode might bring one on…..

“So any thing else you wanted to ask me Darling?” He asked eating his chicken and smiling at her “Don’t be shy I’m pretty much an open book” he joked taking a sip of his wine and looking at her curiously.

The first bite she took made Sarah moan outloud. She blushed and pointed at her dinner with her fork, "This is really delicious Alex, you really good at cooking."

He asked her if she wanted to ask him anything else. There was a lot she wanted to ask him but she wanted to take her time with it all. "Well, OK, Hmm.." she took a sip of her wine and smiled, "What do you do now that you're not enlisted...is that right? Enlisted? anymore in the Navy. Do you have any plans for the future?"

“I don’t know” He admitted thinking about her question and deciding to answer truthfully “I have some things I need to… Come to terms with a lot that happened to me but once I get the clean bill of health I was thinking about maybe opening a restaurant…. I know it sounds crazy but like I said cooking is a supreme joy for me it’s some thing I love to do and a passion of mine I was thinking it might be nice to turn that passion into a career or at least do some thing I love to do”

“That’s a ways a way though” Alex admitted shrugging and finishing the last of his food “what about you? What do you plan to do besides working in the diner?” He asked raising an eyebrow.

Sarah hesitated when he asked her what she wanted to do. The last time she told anyone her dreams, she had been laughed at and her dreams shot down instantly. All thanks to Jason. He knew how to kill her enthusiasm for life and seemed to find a joy in doing so.

Shrugging, Sarah waited until she was finished with her bite, "I don't know.. I had thought about opening up a winery a long time ago, but you know, that's just a crazy thought... I'm not sure about what I really want. I guess I'm just taking it day by day."

Their conversation continued until dinner was done and they both found themselves sitting back in the living area, another glass of wine for each. And yes, the wine was definitely making Sarah a lot more relaxed than when she first arrived.

“A winery would be cool” Alex said excitedly “I love wine my self it’s a taste my mom instilled in me” he said bringing her back to the couch “I could tell you had some experience with it when you first got here” he admitted giving her a small smile. He was closer to her on the couch then he had been the wine making him bolder then he had been. He touched her hand gently with his own smiling at her.

“Hey if we ever get together w could run it side by side” He joked stroking her arm “you open up a winery I have my restaurant inside of it nice quite place not to big or small the two of us doing our passions and living a simple life” He said his smile wide and infectious.

With a light laugh, Sarah nodded, "That would be something to think about. But I think the real challenge would be matching wine selections with your great food.." she said, not realizing how close and in intimate space they were. She could feel the warmth from the heat of his body and she rather enjoyed it.

As they continued to talk, she started to run her finger on his jean clad thigh, her eyes locked deep into his.

"What happened to your leg?" She asked, hoping it wasn't too forward of her. He had said he was an open book so what would it hurt to ask him that?

And just like that reality came crashing back

He heard the gunfire in the back of his head and tried very very hard to block it out. Instead he tried to focus on her touch and her eyes both of which served to ground him in the present instead of the past. He bit the inside of his lip and drew on the pain waiting until his heart slowed before he finally spoke.

“It’s a long story I got hurt in my last deployment and it caused me to have to get out” He said keeping his voice carefully controlled “I have a hard time talking about it and im going to therapy for it” He explained before clearing his throat.

“Has any one ever told you how beautiful your eyes are?” He asked stroking her cheek “Im not just trying to change the subject they truly are… Breathtaking” he said softly.

She saw the trouble he was having with telling her and so Sarah decided not to push the subject. Just like her, he had his hard times in life and it was difficult to talk about...just like her past with Jason.

"I understand," she said quietly, still look at him.

When he said something about her eyes, she just blushed and looked away, "Thanks.." He probably wouldn't say that if he had seen her the last time they were bruised and swollen. "Some people think I have two of them," she teased and gave his hand a small squeeze.

“I just” He said

“Fuck it”

He leaned in giving her a deep kiss

“I’ve been wanting to do that all night” He murmured before giving her another deep kiss. He put his wine glass down and stroked her hand kissing her deeply and sliding his tongue inside of her mouth. He hoped he wasn’t being to forward but for now he just enjoyed kissing her. He moaned into her mouth pulling her closer and running his fingers through her hair as he kissed her passionately.

To say she was surprised by the kiss would have been a lie. Hell, if he hadn't done it then she would have been the one to have initiated it. When he pulled away telling her he had been wanting to do that all night was her only time to take a breath before their lips met again.

She so close to him that she might as well had been sitting on his lap and as tempting as it was, she remained where she was as she returned the kiss, her tongue finding his and her own moans mixing with his.

He moaned and continued kissing her playing with her hair as he deeply and passionately kissed her. He moaned into her mouth and pulled her into his lap wanting no needing suddenly to be close to her. He delighted in the way her lips felt against his as well as her tongue. He could feel his cock hardening in his pants but didn’t pay it any mind instead passionately kissing her and running his nails up and down her back in circles.

“Mmm you taste good” he mumbled against her lips pulling away “I’ve not kissed any one in a long time but god did I want to kiss you” he said blushing a little as he felt sort of shy.

She ran the back of her hand along his jaw and smiled while looking into his eyes, "well, thank you for kissing me... I wanted it too," she said quietly.

Sarah realized then she was in his lap and she blushed as she scooted off. "I had a really good time tonight, Alex, thank you for inviting and cooking dinner for me." She didn't want to, but it was time for her to leave before things got to the point she couldn't stop it. As much as she wanted to continue, Sarah didn't want him to think she was an easy lay. She wanted to take things slow and not jump into anything like she did with Jason.

"I should get going before it gets too late."

“Probably” He admitted reluctantly pulling away and helping her off his lap “would it be bad of me to say I didn’t want you to go?” He asked looking at her and giving a small smile “Even if w didn’t do that” He said glancing and giving her body another once over before meeting her eyes “you’re the first person I have had here in a long time it was nice kind of dont want the night to end” He admitted looking out at the window before getting up and going to give her some food for the road. He handed her the food a handsome smile on his face as he leaned in for another deep passionate kiss.

Sarah return the kiss but broke it before it got to the point she couldn't stop.Taking the package from him, she turned, walking toward her car. Before she got to it, she turned and gave him a little wave before getting and leaving.

Feeling good on the drive home, Sarah permitted herself to blast some music and sing along (probably terribly) to it. Tonight was a great night and she relived it in her head as she pulled up to her apartment building. Finding a parking space, she pulled in and then got out before making her way up to her place. It was already quite late and she had to work in the morning... before she went to bed, she sent Alex a text, "Thanks for tonight. I hope we can do it again soon."

A week later

Alex pulled up at the diner on his bike running a hand through his hair nervously as he clambered up the steps. He nervously picked at his black long sleeve button down t-shirt and checked once more to make sure his matching jeans matched. Once he was satisfied he opened the door entering the diner and going to sit down at the bar. This time he was driving her out to his place where they were going to hang out and have some food. After their date last week they spent most every day talking to one another. He found out her likes and dislikes what she was into and the things they had in common. He still had a hard time believing his luck she was amazing and he was already feeling himself fall for her more and more.

He waited drumming his fingers against the bar and ignoring the cook’s glare. She was probably in the back changing before joining him he reasoned trying to get his butterfly’s to calm down.

"I can't believe you're going out with him again," one of the older waitresses said to Sarah.

Sarah had spent the last five minutes changing from her waitress uniform into something more suited for a ride on a bike. She wasn't sure about the bike but since he was picking her up, she went along with it.

As she zipped up her jacket and pulled her hair into a low ponytail, Sarah just shrugged at her co-worker's comment, "He's actually a really nice guy and we have a lot of things in common." Was all she could say before walking out and seeing that Alex had already arrived. Sarah smiled at him as she walked up to him, "Hey, ready to go?"

“Wow” He said looking her up and down “aren’t you a sight” He murmured looking her up and down in approval before clearing his throat. He got up and led her outside gesturing at his bike before going over to one of the saddle bags.

“I don’t usually wear one but here” He said handing her a helmet “I thought you might like this” he said tossing the helmet to her before helping her secure it. He made sure she was safe and secure before helping her onto the bike. He was nervous worried that she wouldn’t like it, he loved going riding and if she did as well… IT would be another point in favor of their relationship.

“You ready?” he asked kicking the bike into gear and feeling the beast rumbling below him.

Sarah could only mumble under the helmet and laughed as she just nodded when he asked if she was ready. She wrapped her arms around him after climbing on. When he started it, Sarah gasped in surprise at the loudness of the bike but it wasn't bad...she just tightened her grip around Alex's waist and hung on for dear life.

She trusted him with getting her there safe and enjoying another home cooked dinner. Also, another make out session would be a wonderful dessert...

He gunned the engine and jumped onto the highway coursing down the street. He moved in and out of traffic expertly weaving as he raced out of the city. The dessert night was fresh and cool and he gave a small little whoop as he raced down the blacktop. He enjoyed the feeling of the bike the wind cutting his hair. It was pure adrenaline the kind that unshackled him and set him free cleared his mind of all the memories. He wondered if she enjoyed it and risked looking back to see her face before quickly looking back.

He got to his house in record time pulling to a stop before kicking out the kickstand. He got off helping her off before unlatching the helmet and stowing it in the saddlebag.

“How was it?” He asked looking at her closely checking to make sure she was okay.
