Broaden My Horizons Please... Musically

Jill Scott - Hate on Me

It’s just so upbeat and perky. I couldn’t help but dance around a bit while getting ready. Well, as best as I can at the moment.

I may not need any coffee this morning now - or points for perception.

Generic saucy female empowerment framed as man-blame to my ears.

But I did like the "what if I gave you diamonds out of my own womb" line, that's original, I think.

The peach pie reference was a bit cliche.

That's the trouble with most popular music; it's moon spoon baboon crap.

Huh. I didn’t get any man blame vibe at all. I think you might be projecting. And maybe following me?

No.... that would be ridiculous. You have pots to stir, and I’m pretty boring aside from the ditzy blonde schtick in attempt to detail the usual GB apathy.

Here in the Snowflake Forum, reading someone's post and commenting on it is stalking or obsessing.

And hey, that blouse looks good on you.

I hope Adrina spreads for you soon...this sensitive little boy with the groot av routine is really gay.

Quit talking about Luk at 4am, lil lace. It reaks of sadness and depseration.

Also, the Tragically Shit still suck.

Doesn’t the art of conversation require some back and forth? Otherwise, it’s just the PG (which I do visit from time to time).

And thanks. I’m making an effort for my two hours in front of Zoom, merely an appetizer for six hours tomorrow.

And could you walk the dog if you’re skulking around in the flower beds? Sheesh.

Flower beds? How gauche. I hacked your laptop cam, silly.

Jazz: add Chet Baker

Rock: add Smithereens

Country: add Hayseed Dixie

Americana: add anything by R. Crumb

These guys listened to the cure a lot....staring into the void/suicidal the cure, not top 40 pop "I'm in love!" the cure.

But also have a heavy modern synthwave thing going on too that fits perfectly.

Tedeschi Trucks Band (blues and blues-inspired rock)

I looked through but didn't find anything that vibed with me. Thanks anyway.

That was a lot of fun to watch. :D

Not feeling it, but thank you.

Not feeling it, but thank you.

Joyce Sims- Come in to my life

https://youtu.be/Opc1YmoXnNg

Great voice, but a love song. :p

Lemolo Mellow Stuff - A nice sound but a bit too emo.

Sharon Van Etten - If you haven't watched the official video, you really should. It's very interesting. Added,. Thank you.

Velvet Moon - Pretty. But, eh, a love song.

An oldie. :) But no thank you.

yma sumac. your head will never be the same.

I'm not an opera fan, but thank you.

That was interesting.

How far did you explore them? I recently picked up a few more tracks and haven't found one yet I don't like. Soft and peaceful, but also a bit edgy.

In the Middle of the Night and I Can't Sleep for example.

Still Corners - middle of the night - not quite my groove, but thank you.

Still corners - I can't sleep - Brokenhearted love song. No thank you.

I used to go further into looking for songs but it really is a bit of work. If there isn't a specific song suggestion I will use Amazon's digital music to sample the artist's albums quickly. However I really do prefer specific song suggestions.

I can also suggest 'Pray For Sound', all instrumentals.

And Myrkur. Definitely Myrkur. First albums were black metal with some demon screaming, but later ones are much, much softer. 'Mausoleum' (despite the name) is incredible. 'M' is good too and the latest, 'Folkesange' is hard to describe.

Pray for Sound - Great to get a massage to. Well minus a couple of their more upbeat ones.

Myrkhur - Not hugely into music in another language. I keep trying to make sense of it in English.

Folkesange - Ren Fair music.

You should try it in symphony.

That is very... aggressive sounding.

Great cover. Seriously.

The Cliks

Very emo love song-y sounding. I looked through some of their other stuff but didn't really hear anything that called my name though. But thank you. :)

I have a renewed interest in Joni Mitchell after reading that her unique guitar tunings were the result of weakness in her left hand from polio.

She's got a lot of stuff. A lot of it sounds alike.

She sounds a bit angry in that song. Here's a happier one:

Long ass list without a lot of specifics.

Larkin Poe - They are very good. I already have several of their songs in my collection.

The Decemberists - Bless their heart, after going through about five albums I think they need some anti-depressants.

Little Feat - Hamburger. The friend that got me to move across the country would have appreciated them. In his honor, I will take a Hamburger. Just one. Thank you.

Weezer - Africa - I swear I must be the only person that really does not like this song. No, thank you.

Toto - Hashpipe - Weezer did a better job with their song. Or maybe the song is just not to my taste. Thank you but no.

John Prine - Thank you but his music just isn't for me.

Alabama Shakes - Interesting sound, she's got a set of pipes. But I just couldn't find anything for me from them.

Fleet Foxes - White Winter Hymnal - Interestingly done video.

My Morning JJacket - I'm not sure what it is about them, but I find them slightly annoying.

That's not a bad song. I am a bit surprised given our opposite taste in music :D They have some other stuff I didn't think was bad either.

SG - Natasha Bedingfield - Pocket Full of Sunshine. Added. Thank you. :)

Same - Unwritten. Added.

Thank you, no.

Jazz: add Chet Baker

Rock: add Smithereens

Country: add Hayseed Dixie

Americana: add anything by R. Crumb

Chet Baker - A lot of stuff. Any specific suggestions? No love songs. Upbeat is good.

Smithereens. I had forgotten about them. Nostalgia.

Hayseed Dixie. Didn't find anything but thank you anyway.

R Crumb - A lot of covers.

Note - Tai Verdes - A-O-K

Added.

Consider 'Hive Riot'

Start with 'Undercover'.

Already have it. Good song.

This is a cool little ditty too:

R.U.D.W.N.

Can't find out anything about the artists though.

Can't find them on amazon music. Evil, yet convenient.

Mellow sounding and not unpleasant, but a bit too emo.

Strange Pleasures is a good album for me ... nice and mellow.

Background music here. Same with Russian Circles ... same kind of tunes, maybe a little more rock-ish.

Myrkhur - Not hugely into music in another language. I keep trying to make sense of it in English.

She's an acquired taste. I consider the voice to be just another instrument and don't worry about the lyrics. Good background music.

Symphonic Rock is a whole 'nother world. Lots of energy involved. Nigthwish is among the top groups and Dark Passion Play is one of their best albums.

Also Imaginareum:

But they're one of those groups, you either love'em or you hate'em. There's little in between.

Katydid's Ditty -- Mason Williams (he of Classical Gas fame)

Simple, peaceful, relaxing.

The Little Blue Frog -- Miles Davis.

A silly little 9 minutes that'll put a silly little grin on your face.
