Folding up the hire notice in my back pocket I look at the house I’ve rented for the month, although it's real purpose won't happen until the end of October. Last year was awesome but this year I wanted to give a little more notice.

From last year's party I know it is perfectly spooky with plenty of rooms for naughty goings on and dark corners for dark deeds…

I walk to the post box on the corner and carefully insert a bundle of handwritten envelopes through the slot, addressed to all who frequent the SRP lounge.
The invitation inside is carefully handwritten to match the envelope and reads as follows…

HAPPY HALLOWE’EN!
You are invited to Britwitch’s Hallowe’en Party Weekend!
Friday 28th - Monday 31st October 2011

There will be suitably spooky fun running both day and night so do drop by if and when you have chance…it’s my favourite holiday and I couldn’t let it go by without doing something!

Hoping to see you and your chosen costume there!

Best wishes,

Britwitch

P.S. Feel free to bring anything to party that you like and any and all help is welcome to help me prepare! :D

Invitations on their way, I head to the store, food and drink needs to be bought, creepy cupcakes will need to be baked ready for the weekend…the house will also need balloons, streamers and candles...there'll be lanterns and a maze to arrange in the garden...there are some odd jobs that need doing around the house (hence the relatively cheap hire price!) and then of course my costume also needs a little tweaking… ;)

This afternoon's task was supposed to be starting to hang lanterns in the trees although with the wind getting up and dark clouds rolling in, I think that might have to wait.

Leaving the box of lanterns by the door, I head to the kitchen to get a bucket of hot water and a cloth. Got to get this place clean...ready to make it all dusty and cobwebby again!

Soon I'm on my hands and knees, washing the floor in one of the many rooms

Opens the mailbox and goes throu the mail...

Letter from Britwitch? What will it be?

Hallowee'en party!! So nice!

Runs to the desk to write the reply.

Of course I'm coming. Tell me if you need help setting it up :)

Scratching my head thinking about a costume...

I arrive at the house early, less than a week to go and far too much to do.

I check the mailbox, sighing slightly to one see one response but I know people have busy lives...it's likely my invites might have slipped under their radars...shrugging I close the mailbox and head inside, people will probably arrive of their own accord when the party starts.

But today is for decorating, fake spider's webs, lanterns, candles, pumpkins to carve...

Rolling up my sleeves I head to the kitchen, struggling to balance the large tray of pumpkins on my hip.

Trying on different outfits for the weekend...

Witch? Nurse? Pirate? Tigress?

can't decide!

The last of the pumpkins is finally in place…I think I may have bought too many, then again, there is no such thing as too many pumpkins at Hallowe’en.

There are spooky faces for the porch, more elegantly carved ones featuring the initials of members of the Lounge which will greet them in the hallway.

Another set of the orange lanterns will guide guests off down the garden towards the spooky maze I shall construct.

And now…there is fake cobwebbing to hang in the corners, hundreds of candles to put out and then there’s the goodies to start baking! Not to mention my costume to finish!!

Rubbing my hands together gleefully, I set about making the now pristine house all dusty and dingy once more!

Wiping stray strands of fake cobweb from my hair, along with a few real ones, I stand back – impressed with my efforts. I’ve made relatively short work of decorating the rooms…fake bugs and beetles hanging from the theatrical webbing. Candles providing flickering lighting and plenty of dancing shadows. The few items of furniture covered in white sheets with the odd bundle of fairy lights glowing here and there around the edges of the rooms.

The bedrooms upstairs have been given a spooky twist but are still functional for whatever functions my guests find for them.
I bring in the gorgeous gift from yeishia, I should have known she’d bring something so lovely. I place in the middle of a table and arrange the glasses around it, ready for Friday’s fun.

And now to try and find just the right boots to go with my chosen costume.

There's a knock-knock-knock on the door and then a feminine voice calls out, "Witchling, are you here?" A quick trip to the kitchen has her admiring all the decorations along the way, as she settles a basket of blueberry muffins on the kitchen counter. They smell fresh, and it probably wouldn't take long for the house to smell like they do - fresh and delicious and warm.

A little note is left with the basket that reads: 'Hope you enjoy, see you at the party. -T'

She slips out the front door, heeled feet click-clacking on the entryway surface as she leaves.

I look up from my current task, putting fresh bedding in each of the bed rooms should they be required over the weekend, at the sound of a voice.

By the time I make it downstairs, led mainly by my nose and the delicious scent coming from the kitchen, the owner of the voice seems to have gone.

The muffins look divine and I quickly cover them to keep them fresh until the party starts. Such a thoughtful gift.

Smiling, I head outside to hang lanterns in the trees and finish the maze, the last of the jobs still to do before I can start to get
myself ready.

I manage to get outside before skipping back in and sneaking one muffin from the basket for myself and taking it outside with me, a huge grin now curving my crumb covered lips.

It's done.

At last, the house is ready for the weekend that lies ahead.

I grab a quick shower to remove the last of the cobweb from my hair and then tumble into one of the bedrooms to grab a few hours sleep before the party starts. Naked flesh is soon covered by a white sheet and soon I begin to drift into dreams of shadowy figures doing all manner of fiendish things in the night...

A final touch of eyeliner and I’m ready. Smoky eye make up to compliment my witchy costume.

The party food is laid out and waiting to be devoured, a blend of savoury and sweet, with plenty of treats for my guests and any trick or treaters that stop by.

The plates of nibbles will be carefully stocked over the course of the weekend by the serving staff I’ve hired for the event. They’ll also make sure the drinks flow too.

Candles are glowing every where and the sun is setting outside…

Walking up to the house he smiled himself and nodded. He hadn't exactly received an invitation, but he was new around here anyway. What a better way to introduce yourself than to join the neighbors for some fun and merry-making, right?

"It's not creepy at all," He assured himself "It's only natural to want to join in when there's merriment to be had, isn't that right?" Yes, that's right. Join your fellow cohorts and make trouble. It IS what you were born to do after all. He reached up to grad the the rusty old knocker and prepared to knock on the door...

The party is quiet but it's still early...

I move among the first few guests, smiling, welcoming - taking a moment to whisper in a server's ear to ensure that they do their best to ensure my guests want for nothing.

I spy a cat girl and a recent acquaintance...

Hello and welcome...

I look up as I hear a familiar voice. "Well hello! The mummy let me in, I hope you don't mind... I sensed this party from a mile away and HAD to come over and check it out." relaxing a bit now, as there is at least one person I know here. "If I wasn't allowed in without an invitation, then it's that mummy over there," I say pointing off into the distance.

Everyone's welcome...

I smile, offering a hug, a proper welcome

Thanks for coming! There is plenty of food and drink, and lots of spooky things lurking in corners if you fancy a scare! Please, do help yourself to anything you want...

"Errr... I believe I already did. You might want to refresh the bacon platter." Grinning and then hugging you back. "It's good to see you again. How was your day?"

My day's been great so far...

I sip my drink, a bright red concotion, moving a stray lock of long dark hair from my eyes.

And the bacon was there to be enjoyed...

I laugh, nodding at a staff member to refill the platter in question and smiling to see it's already been done.

...along with everything else

I add, eyes meeting his with a sparkle

"Ah, I see, I see..." Smiling at my generous host as I look around the room. "Interesting place you've got here." Meeting my host's eyes and nodding at her. "Where are you from if I may ask, or is your name supposed to be enough of a hint?"

Thanks, I used this place for my party last year too...glad you like it!

A giggle as I lead my guest through the spookily decorated rooms, fake webs and bugs hanging down from the doorways, candles in every corner.

I am a Brit by birth but I left those shores a good few years ago now...and you? Where do you hail from?

"You live there long before you moved, or did you move as a young child? And where did you move to?" Gazing around at the sights closely as he sipped on some tea slowly. "I hale from the U.S. myself. And yes, we have our share of problems, but it's home nonetheless. If everyone ran away at the first sign of trouble, nothing would ever be solved."

Oh, I lived there most of my life, I left about 6 years ago and moved to the Arctic North, now I'm a couple of hours south of the Arctic Circle in a land of snow and reindeer and loving it!
And the U.S is somewhere I've never visited but hope to one day...and there is no country that doesn't have it's share of problems...

I smile as I stop to pick up a cupcake and lick off a little of the frosting

"I hear you on that one. Now, if you ever come stateside, look me up." Laughs and sips his tea again as he follows his host around on the grand tour. "Looks like you pulled out all of the stops here..."

Well Halloween comes but once a year...and it's one of my favourite holidays...so...

Our tour has brought us to the hallway, with the stairway leading upstairs and the front door.

...what were you in the mood for? There is a maze outside and more spookiness upstairs...
