I thought this thread was the best place to put my news:

Tonight, with help from a few Councillors, I managed to stop City Hall charging for car parking on our seafront this summer.

We did the same last year.

Anyone bet I won't have to fight the same battle NEXT year?

Good on you, Og! It costs a small fortune to park on the seafront here. I doubt the council would listen to anyone on that matter, but, then again, has anyone ever tried? People like you are rare. I'm in awe.

They listen to me because I keep coming back and whisper it softly - my daughter is a chief reporter for the local paper. Upset me and she gets pissed off as well and won't report them.

Once they start charging for the summer only, it won't take long to realise that their lovely parking meters could be used for the rest of the year and the public won't notice if they raise the charge by ten pence an hour - every year.

I and my allies know that once they start charging people to park the Council becomes addicted and sees meters as an easy way to get more money.
