because of the perceived hypocrisy on the part of a social conservative posting, reading and enjoying porn and erotica. that's life. it's the same reason everyone got all fired up about spitzer fucking whores and all those republican dudes who were living on the downlow while screaming about the evils of homosexuality. if people smell hypocrisy on someone they're fucked. that's just the way it is.

If she wasn't ashamed, if she hadn't hid it, then she might have had her political career among a population that would have known and not cared or judge. There are, after all, plenty of faithful Christians who write, enjoy and are not ashamed of erotica. As this website shows. They may or may not announce it in their lives, but they might agree that if they were running for public office, they'd never hide it, deny it, or say that "difficult times" had driven them to it.

I didn't know her, and I don't lack sympathy. People should be allowed their harmless and private pleasures, and not even politicians should be forced to make their entire life public. But I always believe that you should live life as if every deep dark secret of yours might come to light at any minute. Would you still have your friends? Your community? That job you choose for yourself? If no, then maybe you should re-think anything "questionable" that you might engage in (difficult times or not) or those friends, community and chosen job. This is the 21st century and there are a world of options out there. But if you decide to stay with those friends, community, job, then you need to be prepared to perhaps lose them one day if those deep, dark secrets do come to light. You pick those who will judge you harshly for such things, and you take that risk. You especially take that risk if you, yourself, pretend or do hold such opinions about the very deep dark secrets you're engaged in.

Good points, all. I feel empathy for her, as I'm sure she finds this really embarrassing, but I'm glad she's getting a tough time from the very people she has cultivated as supporters. Perhaps it will spur some personal reflection on her part.
