That was my impression too. It has merit, not the journey, but start it when they arrive. There has to be miss matches, such as to old, to young, color and background. I'm not good enough to start it or even moderate it, but if someone started the thread, I would join.

Another example of this sort of scenario is Andre Norton's _Year of the Unicorn_. In that book a band of mercenary shapeshifter, in exchange for fighting in a war alongside human medieval-level lords and their knights, asked to be paid with 13 women to be their brides. There was no matchmaking ahead of time. Instead the women arrived as a group into the foreign culture of the shapeshifters (different religion, the shapeshifters human forms look like they belong to a different race, the shapeshifters live surrounded by magic while the humans have little or no magic).

The book at this point kind of cheated by magically pairing people with their soulmates, but I think it would have been neat to see the humans being afraid of and intrigued by the strangers they're supposed to marry, and the shapeshifter soldiers awkwardly trying to court civilians from a different culture. But personally I would like to see both groups be of mixed gender, so there would be mailorder husbands as well as brides, and some of the pairings could be straight and some gay. Also fewer than 13 couples would work better in terms of character development and tightness of the story.

So, more like: There is a clan of people where everyone is related, so they have to bring in husbands and wives from outside the clan. Normally the young women of the clan would be traded for women of another clan, but the clan has a special ability (shapeshifting, magic, alien technology, whatever) which all of the children of that clan inherit. The children of both genders need to stay in order to be properly trained and to live where people aren't prejudiced against them. Or the clan has lost too many people in a recent war (last remnant of an alien or fantasy race?), they need to encourage all their young people to breed to bring the clan back up to a good size so it won't die out.

Alternately, maybe the wife finds out only at the reception that her husband is a jerk and has been cheating on her or something, and this develops as an act of revenge on him.

The train need not be limited to male guests either, perhaps one of the ladies, seeing what's going on, races to her hotel room nearby to get her strapon and decides to share it with the other female guests...

Not to be mean, but wouldn't her fiance naturally assume in most conventional cases that casual sex ended with them agreeing to be exclusive? Of course, if she was a swinger like me and my gf, it wouldn't have to end at all. But it is a natural assumption in traditional engagements.

Kinda like, right now, I'm joining the Air Force. I know that I'm signing a contract to do what Uncle Sam tells me to for the next 4 years or so, but it's not until a certain point where I realize "Holy SHIT, this is going to be the next four years of my life."

Hell works even without the magic as a straight ahead narrative in a fantasy realm:

Frontier village depopulated by war or plague, king orders his bailiffs to grab up some women from "by the docks" to be shipped there as wives...

Myself, I was thinking prejudice, domineering clan elders trying to force gay people into straight marriages and young clan members incestuously in love with each other to marry outsiders, an outsider who was a hermaphrodite or a catgirl or something else not-quite-human, and maybe some sort of ritual gift or test.

Hmmm, for the sake of brevity, well sorta anyway.

Why not adjust the tale to say, the princess is promised to the king for payment of his help. She reaches his castle only to find that his people live differently than hers. Say his are very sexually active with anyone living, her's aren't.

Though personally, I think it would be more fun if her people were sexually active with everyone and his aren't. Then you can have fun with her trying to get the maid to eat her, the butler to fuck her and so forth.
