Headline from today's Washington Post online:

Justices Deny Visa, MasterCard

Have these people no shame?

This is fine for people like Ken Lay who always have a briefcase full of unmarked bills on hand, just in case. But what about the rest of us? How can a middle-class criminal defendant get a fair shake in the courts, when Justices won't accept credit-based bribes?

Not TV churches, neon. The big money is in TV evangelism, and they exist on telephone donations using credit cards.

Does anyone else find themselves fascinated by that husband-and-wife TV evalgenist team, where the woman has enormous pink hair? You've gotta know there's money in doing God's will, when there's there are that many gilt-and-red-velvet thrones on the set. Jesus, the woman spends more on eyelash glue in a year than Sandra Day O'Connor will earn in bribes in her Supreme Court career! And they aren't squeamish about taking credit cards over the phone.

(Note to female TV evangelists who cry a lot: There is waterproof mascara now. Praise the Lord!)

We don't go for the TV Church over here, in fact, I think it's illegal.

If not, can you send over some bottles of that waterproof mascara?

Over here, things are going the other way. In ten years it'll be illegal to change the channel.

We do have sex channels and naked game shows. Religious channels are outnumbered.

TV channels take credit cards but the conversion rate from pounds to euros is poor.
