I would like to announce that I am now a cat person. I used to think of myself as neutral, maybe animal-friendly, and oh by the way I have a cat.

NO LONGER.

I coexist with dogs, and they are fine, like whole wheat toast is fine. But cats are crazy, bitchy, inspired, evil (but without real power so it's just cute) and adorable.

And did I mention cats are crazy? Crazy keeps it entertaining, yo.

So, that's that. I have chosen my allegiance. Sorry, dog people. It's not you-- actually, it is totally you.

Welcome to true ownership.

(Meaning you now have the pleasure of being owned by The CAT. May god have mercy on your soul.)

My own sweet Edwina enforces my submission to her every night by sleeping on juuuuuust enough of *my* pillow, to remind me who's in charge. If I forget who is in charge (ie: I unceremoniously toss her out of bed), she'll strengthen the dynamic by sleeping on my head.

My soft spot is for social friendly puppy in cat drag cats. If you've never had a boy, get one, the extra snuggle monster factor is worth the periodic litter box oops. Actually, 2 in 3 girls I've had - also puppy cats.

I want an actual dog too, but I am not allowed. There are some issues that I believe should be consensus. To make this worse: 2 cutest new puppies next door.

I am with you 100% .... we adopted 3 kittens in August and I am totally in love with them! I love cuddling with them and love when they sleep in bed with me.

I had never had cats when I was growing up so didnt think I'd like having a cat. The rumor is that they are bitchy and aloof and you never see them and just have to clean up after them. But my experiences have been very different .... I love when they cuddle in my lap and meow for my attention because they want to be picked up.

We're currently under the Domination of three female cats of our own, and three male kittens still in foster status. (Strange thing, the one with the malformed leg from birth trauma is the oldest, and is now smaller than the one two months younger, who is smaller {by a *long* shot} than the one a month between them.) Middle foster is a big cuddler with me - he loves to curl up and go to sleep in my lap; young foster cuddles more with her, but will settle for me; elder (smallest) foster isn't a cuddler at all... until bedtime, at which point he usually settles for either the top of her head or across her throat. Fortunately, he's small and light enough he doesn't strangle her.

Of the permanent cats, the two elder *love* to sleep with us: Eldest with her, usually under the covers by her tummy; middle quite often between my legs (or, if my legs are too close together, *on* them, thus in the middle of the night my lower leg goes to sleep and causes me to wake up. Youngest sleeps wherever she damn well pleases - sometimes with us, sometimes on top of one or both of the others, or on/with the kittens, sometimes on the back of the sofa.

We also have, of course, the Corgi, who sleeps in her zip-up private kennel, to keep cats from tormenting her at wee odd hours in the night, and to avoid accidents when she decides she's thirsty after we've gone to bed. If she had her choice, her bed would be on any dirty clothes she could find on the floor or pull from the hamper.

I can't imagine a home without animals. I can't imagine that it would *be* a home.

ETA: If anyone's interested in adopting an adorable kitten or three, we have pictures. :D

I am currently being bossed around by a nine month old adoptee. He won't stay in the bed while I'm asleep, but most certainly asserts his right to my affections any time I'm awake.

He also brings me regular tributes of devotion. Usually in the form of dead feathered things, but once or twice I've gotten half a young possum.

Welcome to the dark side, ITW. You're in good company.

Well, you're in my company. "Good" remains to be seen. ;)

Obviously good -- or deliciously bad! ;)

Please. Give generously and help find a cure.

For DOGS?

I have always been owned by cats, actually, but I had trouble with my true identity. TRUE! ;)

I've always had boy cats -- puppy cats are quite nice as well. Not sure what this one will turn out to be. Puppies are very cute, and in all honesty I do find the psychology (pack/alpha thing) interesting.

Cat cuddles are the best, for sure.

Wowzers -- you guys win. Animal house!

We are keeping this one inside. It's a must in this city.

It's not a win thing, except for the fact that we win from their love and affection, and the love and affection we can return to them. They ask so little: to be provided food and water reasonably regularly, to have their ears and necks scratched when they're in the mood for it, and a warm, reasonably comfortable place to sleep. Even at their bitchiest (and a couple of 'em certainly *can* be bitchy! lol), one knows that they'll soon be back rubbing against legs, sneezing in one's ear (lmao!), and purring like little motorcycles on a cross-country run.

Cats will eventually destroy civilization as we know it. They've already taken over the 47% of Facebook that's not devoted to politics. The end is surely not far behind.

Yeah.... My cat had a Facebook.... Sorry?,

No facebook for my guy. He's a tux cat, I have to let him have his dignity.

I didn't want outdoor cats, but I felt like if they expressed a crazed desire to go outside I might relent - needless to say these guys run away whenever a door opens up to the outside. So much for cruelty of any kind - these guys know where the good life is!

Google A Streetcat Named Bob, -he actually has a tux for his book award nomination given to him by a fan!

I wanted this one to be an indoor cat. But he got to the stage of practically throwing himself at closed windows to get out.

I relented, figuring it was crueller to make my kitteh into a phsycho.

Agreed. Loving them is allowing them to be themselves!

Whenever I'm with a cat, I'm convinced that I'm simply being tolerated and if I were to hold still for long enough, it would start feasting on my flesh. Despite that, I've always wanted one. Psychosis?

Nah, you like 'em complicated in relationships too, don't you?
