Vance is young, he's going to cement the MAGA base behind Trump, with 4 years as VP he's guaranteed the Presidential nomination for 2028. He's an ex-Marine, the 1st GWOT veteran to be a candidate for VP and, in 2028, President, and if he and Trump do the job we expected over the next 4 years, well, after 8 years of President Vance we can rebuild that "shining city upon a hill" that was Reagan's vision....

Like most things people like you credit Reagan for, the "shining city on a hill" not only wasn't his idea, it was a massive misinterpretation on his part. It comes from John Winthrop's speech to the Puritans who landed in Massachusetts in 1630. And he was warning against seeing Boston in such a light, because in that case the entire world would take note of any mistakes they made, and they would then become a notorious bad example.

And 400 years later, it's safe to say Winthrop was right: the Puritans set a really bad example for just about everything.

Now, does Vance help Trump? I don't see how. He doesn't appeal to any groups that weren't already solidly in Trump's corner. He doesn't have much credibility on anything in light of how effortlessly he flipped from "Trump is America's Hitler" to his current absolute obsequiousness to the man. Ohio was already likely to go red. And as I noted above, his wife is already giving the racists pause about supporting the ticket.

Vance was raised a Protestant, became an atheist, then became a Catholic because of his staunch support of a woman knowing her place and making babies uninterrupted.

Ultra MAGA ticket disqualified any non-white male, so Rubio, Haley, Gabbard, Noem, Kari Lake, Tim Scott...all out.

Vance has sucked up mightily to Donald Trump Junior once Junior's daddy got elected, they are "best buds" now. Vance is also besties with Tucker Carlson, who told convicted felon Donald J. Trump that Vance "looked good" which evidently was the deciding factor.
