Breaking A Story Into Parts - categorization

I have been working very hard on a story, lately, one that I am enjoying quite a bit. It's a fairy tale that I remember from childhood twisted and retold to suit my fancy.

About half way through the process of writing my rough draft, I realized that it would be best to write the story from three different POV's - The first part is being told by an observer, someone who knows one part of what is going on. The second part is told by a goddess, someone who is controlling what is going on. The third part is told by the main character, who is the only one besides the goddess that knows what's going on after the first part.

Originally I thought to title it within the story: Part One - Amira, Part Two - Anahita, Part 3 - Shahdi. I was going to write the whole thing out and submit it as that, the three parts in one story.

Now I'm wondering if I should- they are distinctly their own stories, it seems.

For the sake of our sanity, let's say I'm submitting them as three seperate stories. Should I submit them all into the same category, to avoid confusion? The first chapter is incestual, the second and third both "nonhuman" - I *want* them in "nonhuman" - should I submit the first as it is, with the incest but no nonhuman activity to the nonhuman category, should I add some nonhuman action, should I just submit it to "incest"??

Advice?

I have found myself in this same situation a few times (incest involving gay as a sideline, elderly involving relatives etc) and I'm certain that at least one of my stories was 'back clicked' no end of times because the introduction to a "straight"? incest story (for literary ploy reasons) was gay curious incest.

But the main gist of the stories is where I categorise them.

Giving away a small portion of a future "Nice Work" this will involve transsexual sex. I'll still put this part in the mature category because that is the main thrust of the series.

First I’ll start with your titles, Part One - Amira, Part Two - Anahita, Part 3 - Shahdi. In a good trilogy, the first story carries a main title, the next two parts, in most cases, carry a reference in the title to the first story. An example for your story my be, Fairy Tale-Amira, Fairy Tale Part Two- Anahita, Fairy Tale Part 3- Shahdi. That, of course, is a general rule, not all follow that. I believe it would be best for any story posted here.

I am of the opinion that all should be posted under the same category. I would not change your first story, at least not if your happy with it as it is written, but I would explain why you put the first in the nonhuman category with a brief note before your first story starts.

I hope I’ve been of some help.

Why don't you post it as a novella?

Are these stand-alone stories? If they are, I'd post them in separate categories with a strong note saying that they're part of a trilogy and provide links.

I had the same problem with a multi-chapter story in which a different sexual act occurs in each chapter, but they're not stand alone. The act in the first chapter was unfortunately best categorized as voyeur, but I put each chapter where i thought it best fit. I figure if people like the chapter they read, they'll probably go to my author site to find the others.

my concern isn't as much posting a story with more than one theme, or posting in the wrong category, but whether i should post the first part of a trilogy that WILL be nonhuman all in the same category.

those aren't the actual titles, just something i was using to keep them seperate in the post. they don't have titles yet...

I don't want to post it as a novella because I *need* a nonhuman story for the "survivor" contest - that's why I started this story, and if I don't get my three points I'll just die! :(

thanks for your help, guys.

Don't change your story to suit the categories. As I see it you have two choices:

1) Submit them all to the same category with a little authors note at the top saying to the readers that the 2nd two have non-human. This way you won't get as many 1s from people who think you're in the wrong category.

Or 2) Submit them to different categories, but append a link to the next and previous stories at the bottom.

Are they stories that could stand alone, or are they three different people's views of the same events?

I'm more worried about Laurel not putting the first story into the category I want it than my readers being disgusted with the lack of nonhuman sex.

How can I post a link in a story to a story that isn't up on the site yet?

I think that they need each other - the main character is hardly in the first chapter...she hasn't been born yet.

Put a little note to Laurel in the notes section of the submit form to the effect that the main theme of the trilogy will be non-human despite the lack of any non-human action in the first.

If you want to put in the links then put up the stories and then resubmit them as edits so that the links are there.

Chicklet,

If you feel it makes one story, I would not hesitate to post it as such. You may lose coherence if you post it under different categories? Just a thought. Novella seemed an idea, but you already commented that it won't work.
