Just finished watching "Braveheart" for the first time in several years. I love it! What do you think?

That's one of Storm's favorites. He's watched it more times than I'd care to remember. I didn't mind it but after seeing it twice, that was enough for me. He's even got both soundtracks here for when he's playing war games on the computer. Gets him in that warrior frame of mind :D

It stirs my 'grrrr-why-can't-hollywood-and-mel-gibson--portray-the-english-as-something-other-than-pure-evil' frame of mind...

His heritage is Scottish as well so that plays a big part :D Now I wouldn't mind if he started wearing a kilt

It's only advisable to watch the first part. The English win after that.

big news story today. Scotland has more trees now than it had in the days of Robert the Bruce.

Robert the Spruce

I'm half Scottish, I have a thing for wood.<snicker>

I think I've read too much Spider Robinson.

I love Braveheart. *Chuckles.* Love love love that movie. Love. I will diagram.

Me  Braveheart.

We're happy together.

Just wait til Mel gets around to the Owain Glyndwr Story.

Hubby loves that movie.....it made him search farther into his Scottish heritage! I even got him in a great kilt! Woohoo! Kilts are the sexiest! I watch it for the scottish accents! That really makes me swoon! (And Mel does help:D )

One of my favs! Every time Mel opens his mouth I just want to stick something in! hehe:devil:

I have to be the voice of dissent. I dislike Braveheart. I've never understood its incredible allure.

I think quite a bit has to do with the fact that I can't stand Mel Gibson. I think this movie is highly overrated.

FREEDOM!

sorry I was blue and screaming...

what did you say, lavy?

I liked the film as a work of fiction it was exciting and well acted. As for it's portrayal of
the Scots I sometimes think I watched a different film to everyone else. With the exception of Wallace and two or three of his mates all the Scots are shown as backstabbing thugs covered in shit. Robert the Bruce changes sides so many times I doubt he could remember whose side he was supposed to be on. Incidentally my hometown declared for Scotland during a war somewhere around 1190. Which was a bit odd considering we're about three hundred miles south of the border. The siege here lasted nine months.

the Scots only liked part one Lavy. But it brought in the tourists even though they filmed most of it in Ireland. The scots keep their hands in their sporrans.

Imagine perky being half scots. That's the half with the brain then!

I wouldn't let the Sicilian half hear you say that.

Hey kilts are cool. I wore one in a high school production of "Brigadoon". Love the bagpipes too!

I have a predominately English heritage (first ancestor came to VA in 1640) and I hate to admit that they are pure evil when it came to imposing their way on the Celtic peoples and anyothers they wanted to control!

I have no real logical reason to like the movie. *Chuckles.* Maybe because it's painfully masculine most of the way through. Maybe because of the accents... and maybe, today, it's more the memories.

Which is cheesy.

Maybe it's because it didn't snow in that movie.
It's snowing now.
I hate you, snow.

So were the Romans, and Napoleon and the Americans with the Indians.... anyone who has ever conquered anyone else does it... no biggy

Did you know that every single person that died at the Alamo was British or had British parentage?

You're right about conquest! I read and believe a theory that a major reason (other than slavery) for the War Between the States was the clash of culture. The North had adopted the English culture and norms while the South had adopted that of the Scots and Irish (Celts) along with the American Indian.

Everyone? I thought a lot of Mexicans died as well.
