Branching out

Hi ya Bandit, and welcome! I agree, the three S'es are always a problem. Hopefully you will have better luck the next time around.
The people here can be very fun to be around, so please stop in anytime!

SS, I can always use a massage! One of my favorite ways to pass time.. better when it leads into an erotic massage.

Hi ya MoM.. psst Bandit, MoM gives great bear hugs!

Hello higher, and welcome. This little corner is for any and all people that care to branch out and meet new people. Feel free to join in.

Hi CC :) This thread is such a good idea, especially for shy people like me, who finds it hard to poke her nose around the door of a thread that's been going for umpteen pages! Though I've posted in a couple of others and been made to feel very welcome, so I think it's just something I have to overcome

I also love a good massage.....and can never have too many hugs (thanks MoM )

I completely understand Bandit, that is one of the reasons I started this thread. Level playing field and all, so hopefully people wouldn't feel intimidated or like they were intruding.

lol, I was just happy that people posted in it.

Thanks for the welcome, CC, and hello to all others on this thread.

I have a question for you. I am presuming that most of you are Americans (correct me if I'm wrong?), what are your views of George Bush? He has got a reputation over here as a bit of a clown, but what do you guys think of him?

Hello again higher. Funny thing about reputations, one can never believe everything they hear and read. Regardless of what we think we know of situations, unless we are smack dab in the middle of it.. we truly have no idea.

I am American, and very proud to be so. Whatever I may think about the president, I support his position and decisions that are made.

I certainly agree that most of us like to give our opinions on every subject under the sun, and we all seem to think we could do a better job than the President, or the Prime Minister, or local politician, but as you so rightly say, unless you are smack bang in the middle of the situation, doing the job yourself, and your life, let alone millions of other peoples lives could be affected by decisions that you make, you don't really have a clue how you would react to any given situation. But hey, fortunately we both live in free countries where we can speak our minds, and we must never lose sight of that fact, and it should be everyone's inalienable right to give their opinion on our elected rulers.

*Gets off soapbox*

Anyway, we've had some beautiful spring weather recently here in the UK, we've all been walking around in t-shirts and shorts, it's been that nice! Makes you dream of summer and long, lazy days with drinks in the evening outside the pub next to a beautiful river somewhere . . .

:)

Quite honestly higher, I am not really one to talk politics. I have no problem stating an opinion when I have one.. Politics just doesn't whip me into a verbal frenzy. Freedoms that we are allowed for instance, is all in the perspective of what you want to be free to do. While most people do have opinions of their elected leaders, many others have become quite jaded and apathetic.

Spring is upon us as well. The weather where I live is quite capricious. One day it will be 40ish, the next 80ish. I believe that the days I decide to dress for the warmer weather, a cold front hits and vice versa. Of course, that could be because I think everything revolves around me. lol I am looking forward to the summer as well. I enjoy all seasons, but the summer seems to bring so many wonderful things. The potential excitement and possibilities around every corner.

Well here in New Zealand we're heading into winter, though it's been quite warm during the day we've had the first frost last week  We're in the middle of an electricity crisis at the moment, the govt is asking us all to save 10% but we're falling well short of that so they're threatening to cut the hot water off for up to 16 hours a day. There's been no rain to fill the catchment areas for the hydro electric dams, and we have no nuclear power plants here.

I live alone in a little flat in a pensioner village (and no I am not old, though it feels that way sometimes!) and I haven't had to put any heating on yet. It's small (one bedroom, lounge, kitchen and ensuite bathroom) and well insulated and if I pull the curtains when the sun sets it stays warm. I only need to use a couple of lightbulbs and I can see around the whole place :) It gets the morning sun as well which helps. So long as I've got my computer and TV I am happy......

How exactly does one save 10%?

There are some states in the US that have had to deal with electric shortages, fortunately I don't live in one of them. What alternatives are available Bandit? That would be scary with winter coming in.

Saving electricity

Well I do little things......like turn a light off when I leave a room, turn appliances off at the wall instead of leaving them on standby, take shorter showers, use the stove top instead of the oven, and if I do use the oven cook more than one thing at a time. I put a sweater on instead of a heater, use my electric blanket instead of heating the bedroom, use cold washes in the laundry.....little things add up.

10% sounds a lot, but that's over the whole country, and if they turned off every second street light and didn't have big billboards and buildings lit up overnight when no one's in them then we can do better. Someone asked on the news this morning why we're having night sporting events under lights when there's supposed to be a crisis.......I'm wondering the same thing!

Excellent question!

I am trying to do better with conserving energy, but that really only has to do with lessening my bill. Good luck Bandit, hopefully the crisis will be over soon.

If you don't fall asleep ... that's generally what happens ... (at least with mine ... )

As to Mr. Bush I will only say that his politics are not mine (then again it's hard for me to name a politician who is in line with mine ... but Mr Bush way far away). Beyond that I know full well that second guessing decisions without the same set of facts is a really worthless exercise and I can only hope he has put his personal and religious beliefs aside in making those decisions.
