Borrow a Song Lyric Poem

No Crystal Ball

I'm a relatively new member to Lit Erotica and I thought id get in on this challenge.

My song choice is Dear Mama by Tupac.
Lyric is And who'd think in elementary, hey
I'd see the penitentiary one day?

I'd appreciate any feedback

I was 5 years old still holding my innocence,
Wearing my power rangers T-shirt I didn't know the difference,
That beyond all the big smiles and bright lights lay darkness and turmoil,
In the big kids playground where all seems magnificent,
And who'd think in elementary, hey
I'd see the penitentiary one day?
Them cold white walls with the windows barred,
25 years old and mentally scarred,
Inside im melting, i'm streaming with tears,
No make-up but I put my face on,
Rude boy life, my exteriors hard
I can only play the cards before me
And this was my path.

Hope you enjoy

I don't claim any knowledge or expertise in poetry. I merely play with scraps of rhyme — a hit and miss way to pass some time.

The Times They Are A-Changing ; Bob Dylan

The times they are a-changing
I'd rather it wasn't so
The people are all raging
A twist — a place not meant to go

The drums are all banging
Frightening the children so
The hands are all grabbing
Those who need — get nothing though

All run and hide from the firing
The bullets care not where they go
The question asks of the ending
The answer a question — don't you know

The times they are a-changing
No one really knows
I wish I knew
I'm glad I don't
And on — and on we go

Even after all of this time
Sometimes, when I close my eyes
all I can see is her

Her about to laugh
Her about to say my name
Her when she handed me that first letter
Her smile that was for only me

Her leaned against my closed front door
The two of us together some kind of ward -
Salt across every threshold
Protective runes drawn on the floor
Sealed safe inside whatever space we shared
The way we made each other magic.

The way we filled up that space together
The way we overflowed every container -
ourselves, each other, the room, the building, the world.

The way we spilled out of the present.

And

even after all of this time

sometimes, when I close my eyes
I can feel her looking at me.

I close my eyes
Close My Eyes by Arthur Russell

like something

like something forgotten
out of a mutual self-preservation
a negative space

which rendered mutual moot

risk-averse even in contemplation
easier thought than said
and easier said than

done

like something wounded
reaching out, blind, numb,
touch unrecognized

in cold and dark rooms,
in the occasional
close and shared quiet

we know what
we had always known

Nothing was ever going to remain perfect.

when i do see your smile
i remember those times,
how it felt to be a source

i feel it in the center of my body

like something hopeful
as our eyes meet only for a moment

it might be all i ever get and
sometimes,
it is enough

like something wounded
Thankless Thing by Wild Beasts

Wouldn't stop making this hurt
if you could say goodbye
like you mean it
instead of leaving me
to questions
locked outside the stony silence
where you retreat
where you've gone before
and before

Is this another interruption
or the pallid end
you've chosen?

hey...

the line I used to build off of was from an old James Gang song either Funk 48 or Funk 49, but the line was,
" that's what brought me here knocking on your backdoor, yeah..."

I left home when I was only seventeen,
Cuz I'd just had to--, see what I could see.
I saw some of this and that; and then I saw some more.
And thats what brought me here, knocking on your back door.

Hey, Hey baby! Tell me whats your name.
It doesn't matter anyway, baby.
Ooooo, hey hey!!

When I was twenty two, I was sure I had found the one.
And it damn near killed me, tryin to keep her for my own.
Forty plus years now gone, she still here with me.
Only took me just one lifetime, to learn how to be free.

Hey!, Hey baby!!! Tell me whats your name!
It doesn't matter anyway, baby
Ooooo, hey, hey!

"Love is deep as the road is long"
and as the rest of the song goes on
I'm back on a trip with you
taking all the bumps and curves
an ocean out the window
maybe you're bitching about traffic
or we're tackling
more challenging
aspects of a complicated existence
as your wheels roll up a mountain

So many miles between us now
and I wonder if they added up enough
as we drove around
to cover this distance

As many times as I've tried
it's true
that nobody knows how to say goodbye
but you do your best
hope that it counts for something
as time slips past

My love is at least as deep
as our road's been long
and even as you travel without me
it continues on

I'm aware this is sappy
inelegant as hell
and that it must pale in the face
of more passionate appeals
but that level of fervor
which can still ripple under my skin
was never what you needed
from me

Unanswered Letter
ты сновиденьях мне являлся†

I have missed your poems
and your presence, however distant
it ever, at best, was. Tellingly
I always felt as if I could touch,
if not your soft skin, at least the paper
where you had carefully laid your words.
That is now so long ago.

Yet I still try writing to you, as if
my pen could summon your body
as well as the imperfect memories
of your imagined smile. And then
you appeared before me in my dreams,
reciting one of your poems
in that cultured, elegant voice

that signified, if not exactly love,
something like the wistfulness
one feels for certain beauties—
gone like flowers after a hard frost.

"Let me take a step towards you,
let me feel you in my hands.
Let me cross this line,
and show you where it leads"

I'm tired of saying no,
everything else is screaming yes.
Time is compressing fantasy,
the pressure is too much.

I taste what you won't say,
return the sentiment against the wall.
Clemency for my sins,
through your nails in my skull.
