I like where this is headed, but let's go all out and make the pictures of each book like a little interactive TV set like that "Take On Me" video.
One reader can take control of the story in the real world (as if the world was a giant video game) and the other reader is sucked into the fictional world.

This reminds me of something that occured to me while I was going to school at Texas A&M. The Evans Library is FULL of potential nookienooks, soundproofed study rooms, six vast floors of closely-spaced shelves, and of course the occasional blind corner.
