Mom/Son story, looking for some ideas

I have a basic story idea I've been kicking around, but am looking for some ways to fill it out. Basically, it's about a mom who leaves her husband after she finds out he's been having an affair with a girl half his age. She needs somewhere to stay, and moves in with her 20-something son at his apartment. Mom has been shattered by the ordeal, and the two of them start spending more and more time together, growing closer than they have in years. At some point the son starts to realize his attraction for her, or maybe he's longed for her for years and now finds in a situation where he's becoming braver and wants to turn his desires into reality.

The biggest area I'd like to flesh out is the growing sexual tension between them. One thought I have for a major turning point is the son accidentally catching her naked. Both are flummoxed by it, with the son profusely apologizing, but it's also become obvious that Mom's self-esteem has taken a beating and he becomes brave enough afterwards to tell her that she's got an amazing figure (which she does , and that Dad was a fool to ever cheat on her. Maybe even at some point he even admits that he's not sorry he saw her that way because she's so beautiful and deserves to be told so. It's under the guise of trying to have her feel better, but of course he's trying to send other signals as well. Perhaps after that Mom feels better about herself, and with her son's encouragement she decides to dress a little sexier even though she was never the type to do so in the past. They could possibly go on a shopping trip later where the son manages to get her to try on more and more revealing outfits while he compliments her.

I'm trying to see if I can get more moments or scenes or conversations that can increase the sexual tension before things finally boil over and the son makes his move on her. Like them talking about the Dad and her angrily saying that maybe she ought to sleep with a guy half her age to get back at him. She freezes after saying it, because it's so out of character for her and sees her son affected, thinking he's upset, not realizing that he's actually excited by the idea, wishing that she was talking about him.

One thing for me is that in these types of stories one or both participants are too eager to cross the line. I like where you're going with it in that as they live together, they get used to each other and accidentally see things they weren't' supposed and slowly it wakens something.

For this scene, you might want to add alcohol. Not so much where either gets almost pass out drunk and they end up in bed. Instead they have just enough to lower inhibitions and get more honest with each other. Eventually they share a kiss, realize what they did and run off to their rooms. But the dam is broken, and things slowly move on from there. After some time, they talk about it, and things progress to the last sentence both are having the same wish.

I don't know if incest is a category where you look for realism, but I wouldn't choose the too obvious I saw you nude - I get hard - I want sex plot.

Why don't you create a similar cheating tragedy for the son. His girlfriend has cheated him and as they both have to deal with same issues in their relationships it easier for then to start talking about intimate things like sexual needs.

The tension is really the only thing that makes the story interesting to me. I especially want the Mom to be conflicted. I do envision her as being very conservative, and it's only the shock of what she's been through that makes her susceptible to slowly succumbing to her son's advances. Thanks for the alcohol idea, I do kinda like that.

I agree that the son catching her naked is very cliche and I'm not at all married to it. However, I do like the idea of the son being too timid to say anything improper and then finding the excuse to do so. It could happen a different way though.

The son going through a similar tragedy is something I will keep in mind. Up until now, I've envisioned him as being stronger but just unsure about how he can manage to get her on the same page that he is. I see her as being reluctant right up to end, even if she wants him too by then, and him having to push through those obstacles.

That's exactly the vibe I was going for. He's longed for her from afar, but put those desires to rest years ago, but now things have changed. They live together and are building a more equal relationship, and now she's somewhat unattached too and feeling down. It all adds up to him wanting to make a serious attempt at wanting more.

I appreciate the brainstorming, but for this story I don't want her to have other partners. As bad as her husband has treated her, cheating back on him is not something I want her to take lightly. So when she finally gives in to her son's advances, it's a big step for her in more ways than one.

To go against societal norms, religious teaching and assumed morality, doesn't just happen, no matter what 90% of incest stories would have you believe. Having a fling with a younger man would be a logical step, an understandable step, with none of that other BS in the way. She takes her bitterness and uses it to allow her to have a wonderful fling with a younger man.

How about ...
1. The dad had an affair with son's girlfriend and was busted, either by son or the mother.
2. The son, or the mother, cannot keep it and have to confront dad/girlfriend.
3. The mother & son are shattered, have no idea as how to break this news to relatives & friends, as this was so fucked up. Both of them now have trust issues.
4. It is unbearable for both of them. Mom's school reunion invitation popup, they decide to have a break and travel to the other city, by road, passing through different cities.
5. The son talks about mom's youth, things she liked to do, before she met his father. The mother also tell him about when he was a baby. Nothing sexual between them, till here.
6. The mother now also depends on son, not willing to trust anyone else, same for the son.
7. At reunion, her old friends asked about her husband, which was a difficult subject for her, she explained that the marriage fall apart but skipped the details. The mother also inform that they intend to spend few days here in solace.
8. Mother feels jealous when any other girl try to gain son's attention, being her son is the only person left in her life. Likewise, the son also avoid girls of his age, because of the recent experience. The old friends of the mother joked as "Your son seems not much interested in girls of his age, looks like he is into older women perhaps". One of them even call him "Momma's boy" right at their face (but jokingly).
9. The tension between mother and son start building up.
10. The son suggest and take mother to a bar, while staying in hotel in a city on their way back.

A middle age women (older then her son, but younger then mother) flirt with the son, the mother feels jealous, this women was quite smart and observe son lack of interest in other women and his jealous mother. This women is bisexual and was actually more interested in the mother then the son. She asks the mother (as she notice that the mother is also not much interested in anyone else, other then her son) "If you are not interested in men anymore, why don't you try me *wink*"
12. Why this women is interested in them? Well, first they were strangers and it will be just one night stand. Second, she feel it so wicked to manipulate the people and draw their inner self out. I agree. There should be a "why" factor. By husband walking out of the scene, the mother would be vulnerable and needs emotional support, stability, security, respect, being taken care and many more. It cannot be such that the son just fill in the void and they start banging. I think the key is to design various situations, in which the two characters (mother and son) have to pick their choices, that eventually bring them to the point where they see each other as the best person for sex.

There will be a point where the carnal desires take over, but to get to the point, everything needs to be connected with a good enough "reason". As far as the son's girlfriend is concerned, she can be a gold digger, never actually loved the son, she found his father as a better provider, so that is how it all started.

Sounds like a plan for a good story. I think building their relationship slowly from different factors that eventually lead them to realize their want to make the relationship physical is much better than a single "reason" that makes one want the other.

Although the reason might be something bad like the father coming back at some point threatening the mother, maybe the son stands up for her even physically or something similar.

Appreciate the replies. I admit, in my mind it was always the mom that had been scared emotionally and the son being there for her to lean on. Having them both be betrayed is an interesting thought. So he's not just turning to her necessarily because he's always desired her but because he has trust issues too now. I haven't started writing yet, as I want to feel like I have enough material to work with, but I'll give it a shot soon.

The school reunion is an interesting idea.

The lesbian seduction idea is actually similar to another idea I've had kicking around for a long time but have also never started. There is no problem with that idea too, but my idea was to have them have to share a cramped apartment where's there's only one bed, one shower, etc, with the intent of them catching each other in some awkward situations. It also sets a different kind of tone. The son not being at the old house makes him feel more independent, this is his turf, and that is reflected in their relationship which more of equals than it ever was in the past. If she had gone to stay with a male friend instead, or the son had taken in a female friend instead, it would perfectly natural given the circumstances if the two of them gravitated towards one another and eventually became lovers. I want the exact same feeling, except it is uncomfortable here because it's mother and son.
