are there special glues that are better suited for book binding so that the pages don't wrinkle and warp when it cures?

i have a friend who wants to print and bind a book (just one copy). the layout and printing isn't a problem... i'll be helping with a lot of that since it's what i do. what we're trying to figure out is the best way to bind it so that it looks at least a little bit professional.

i know office supply stores have different kinds of spiral-type bindings but we don't want that. at the moment we're considering doing a taped binding... like traditional composition books are done but with a square rather than pointed spine. we're planning to glue the pages together at the far left edge, press it and then cover the spine with binding tape.

if anyone has any experience with this and can suggest a glue, tape, assembly method, paper suggestions or anything at all, i'd love to make use of your knowledge. we're also open to other kinds of binding solutions.

thanks much! :)
