By far one of the very few good enjoyable things about this film.

I do think that Daniel Craig is heir to the Moore bond legacy. I actually preferred Moore to Connery - there was something so queeny and bitchy there.

But seriously --- naked male interrogations for Thanksgiving. I knew I had something to be thankful about.

I beg to differ....

Craig is far more cold-blooded bastard like Connery than sauve, sarcastic smoothy Moore. *grins* In either case though, Craig is a worthy successor to the throne, and I hope he has a successful run with the series.

I still think Julian McMahon (Charmed, Nip/Tuck)would make a totally bitchin' Bond though!

You may be right. Brosnan seemed SO sociopathic as to throw my judgement off. I thought that was a low point.

The Mario-brothersesque opening sequence was kind of cool. Icky, imperialistic, but kind of cool.

I find it difficult to watch a Bond movie that doesn't feature Connery.

I don't know why, but he seemed to "fit" the role the best, in my eyes.

It's like, a total BeWitched moment when I watch someone else as Mr. Bond!!

I do not want to derail the purpose of my own thread.

Which is muscular sweaty men tied to chairs and ball-whapped.

Although not that sweaty. The villains in that movie were all clammy. Sweaty is the new black hat I guess.

Seriously there's not enough Paul Newman horsewhipping torture stuff anymore unless I subject myself to that asswipe Mel Gibson. And I want "whip you till you talk" torture not "stick this crochet hook through your trachea" torture...

I'll be seeing this again tomorrow...for the third time...I can't stop dragging people to it. :)

You know you are F'd up when you are groping your husband during that scene.

3 times? Are you a masochist?

This was like, Lord of The Bond or something at 2.5 hours...

ROFL :D

Thanks Netzach. I was thinking of Lord of the Rings during the latter half of that movie...blasted thing just kept going...not that I'm complaining.

The first time I saw it I honestly wondered if the other people in the theater could tell how turn on I was and how antsy in my seat I was getting.

And am I a masochist? The cane marks on my backside point to yes.

Netzach--

thank you for the spoiler :D I didn't plan to go, though all my fag friends get their pants wet thinking of Bond--
But with nekkid interrogation-- YUMMM!!!

:nana:

Seriously, I really don't like the sort of direction they took using Daniel Craig and a lot of the script was so, un-Bond. I'm not saying we have to follow tradition for it's own sake, but Bond films always have a certain convention, and generally that is: Bond is not a asshole.

Bond is supposed to sweat charisma. He's the sort of guy who would put two bullets into you with a bit of a boyish smirk and say a quick one-liner at your expense as you die. The impression I got with the new 007 is that he's more of a soccer hooligan that just gets access to some nice guns and screws a load of women.

So yeah, just a tad disappointed with the new movie.

I was okay with Bond having the rough edges (ie: being an asshole) because we got to see him early in his career. He did seem to get smoother as the film went on, and I have no doubt that if Daniel Craig does another Bond then we'll see more and more of the classic suave cheeky Bond.

Hmm...one thing I thought was a little light was the Bond screws loads of women aspect. I mean, Le Chiffre's gal was on screen a fair amount and Bond never came close to screwing her. I kept waiting for it...

As adaptations of Bond stories go, however, THIS adaptation of Casino Royal is much, much better than the original (with *shudders* David Niven as Bond. THAT piece of trash was so not-a-Bond flic!). And Connery's Bond was an asshole, at least in the first couple of flics. Suave, but ruthless and with very, very little in the way of a conscience. Much closer to Ian Fleming's creation than the later incarnations of Moore (too smarmy) or Brosnan ((who was almost a psychopath) I'm still mulling over Timothy Dalton's Bond, as an actor he left me cold, but the jury is out on how well he captured the Bond of the novels).

I was impressed with Craig. The early Bond was supposed to be rough around the edges. A loose cannon, not quite under control emotionally. The icewater running through his veins develops as Bond gains experience.

And all I could think with the torture scene was "Damn! That's HOT! I'm gonna have to do that to someone..." *Looks around and wonders where Shanky is? ? ?*

hellllloooooo there big boy..

I saw the film last night and enjoyed it all, it did drag toward the end. I am about half way through the book (audio) and could see it's tracks all over the place. Having the girl in the middle of the road that caused him to flip was a great touch - in the book it was tire spikes. Texas Hold-en? Give me a break!

I loved that he got so frustrated that the CIA gut had to stop him and talk him down from killing the bad guy with that steak knife.

And the CBT stuff was great. He showed pain, and sweat and "in your faceness" very well.

My nuts still hurt and all I did was watch - must be body memory hee hee

That was my beef with Brosnan, he always played it like he was having way too much fun snuffing a load of people. There's some honest La Femme Nikita type moments of sweating knuckles and mouthed regrets and complexities in this film, not enough to get in the way of blowing shit up though, which is good.

Can we please do-away with speeding vehicle close-proximity melee though? I'm so over it.

THAT was my biggest beef of all. Whiskey Tango Foxtrot.

Ok please though, your interpretations:

when M rolls over in bed to answer the phone...

is that a cut young stud shoulder next to her in the background or a middle-aged spouse? Please confirm the former for me? How cool is that?

In my minds eye I remember a young stud, but I did not see nearly enough to see if he were circumcised (cut) or not - hee hee

Hm.

Reading this thread leans me more heavily towards going to see the film.

I've read all the Fleming I could get my hands on, and was wondering how far they'd wander from this book. The comments I've read have me thinking he's a lot closer than any of the movies have been so far, aside from On Her Majesty's Secret Service, the Lazenby one. Interestingly enough, the more they make the film like the book, the more the Bond Movie fans hate it. One notable exception being Moonraker, which I don't think anyone liked, and was probably the farthest from the book of any of the Bond Movies.

Quite frankly, I understand why they'd use Hold 'em instead of Baccarat, though. 99% of the audience would need terms like Banco and suivi explained to them, and while a book can do that, a movie shouldn't. Poker is one game pretty much the entire audience for the film would understand.

Aside - La Femme Nikita *big sighhhhhhhh*

Back to the topic - was already eager to see the film, reviews here are just confirming that its well worth seeing...

I think it sorta 'dumbed down" the movie. When I saw Bond play cards in the early movies it was Baccarat and I have never seen or heard of the game. It mattered not to the plot, the action around the events of the game informed me if what happened was good or bad for Bond, and it exposed me to something new. I searched out the game from my curiosity. It challenged me a little and let me see that the world is more than I think I know.

It's not a big thing in the total movie experience for me but I was looking forward to seeing the cards in the boot being dealt and that little flip of the cards with the long spatula.

The whole POINT is that this is a totally elite universe that the rest of us jack off to in our wildest consumerist imaginings, no?
