bon scott vs. brian johnson

It's a competition with no winners, just losers.

Especially in the audience.

i prefer brian johnson....he has that voice that is reminiscent of someone who has gargled with one to many razor blades

Brian Johnson has a great voice; but I think he lacks Bon Scott's venom. Bon Scott is tied with Johnny Rotten as most venomous man in rock.

I hate that stupid hat.

I remember the day Bon Scott died. I was in school in Germany when a friend of mine told me the news. I didn't know what to do with all the AC/DC stuff I had...but when I first heard Back in Black, I knew I could keep it all. That album remains one of my favorite albums of all time.

Nownow, he isn't so bad. THe hat is a very specific, old pervert english guy thing. Kind of hip; just not Bon. Big shoes to fill. By the way, Brian Johnson actually kept ACDC going; which is considerably more than could be said for Sammy "Red *wheese hack cough* Rocker" Hagar and VH.

"What were YOU doing the day Bon Scott died"?.....

I was 15, pushing a mop in a discoteque......

back in black is good, but i still love bon scott. you'll never change my mind!!

Few are the days that pass that I do not snarl a Bon Scott lyric to myself at some point. Lately, I find myself singing the chorus of "Givin the Dog A Bone", over and over.

Givin the dawwwwwwg a bone. Givin the dawg a bone. GIvin the DAWG a BONE!!!!

You always speak the truth. Right on, brother.

silly man, hats can't hate. they only have two emotions: apathy and indifference.

Did you ever see that old show about Hattytown?

hattytown???

It was a show about hats that had eyes and feet, I don't remember if the had hands, but their function was denoted by what hat they were. (The cop was a bobby hat, the lady was a pink hat with flowers, etc..). I think it was on PBS, we had cable and I remember watching that when I was younger. Please someone say something if you know what I'm talking about so I don't look crazy.

Yeah, they lived in big hats that matched theirs! I don't know about the mice. It was stop motion, though or claymation, something like that.

I think with Van Halen and AC/DC, we're comparing apples and oranges. For all that the Young brothers bring to AC/DC, Van Halen was actually named for the guitarist/drummer brother duo.

AC/DC lost some personality with the passing of Bon Scott, but as Bob so expertly noted, Back In Black proved that they were, musically, the same straight-ahead rock outfit they always were.

Van Halen was simply a different band with David Lee Roth as the frontman. Diamond Dave was a showman; Hagar was a rocker. Perhaps I'm simply biased in liking Hagar more because I remember the incredibly silly ways Roth acted on MTV, and he dragged his bandmates into wearing red outfits and white gloves in music videos.

In any case, VH's dropoff in acclaim and sales, if you ask me, has nothing to do with Roth's leaving, but more to do with how their ability to innovate themselves musically pretty much ended after OU812. The Hagar/Roth/Cherone controversy of the mid-'90s didn't help their PR, either.
