BoBo, in his capacity the politics board "situational Korean", insists there is no such thing as "White Privilege". Please use this thread to show examples of White Privilege, so that we may refer him to it when he forgets (increasingly common nowadays!).

White privilege does not mean your life has not been hard. It just means that you can assault a police officer with a hammer, crash into multiple police cars, drag a policeman, resist arrest & live to talk about it.

Well explain to me what "White Privilege " is please. I am a white girl who grew up in a poor area of a southern city. Dad was a laborer and never went to college. Athletics got me a scholarship and out of there. Same for my husband. He is a white guy but his family came over from Sicily and he was called a WAP a DAGO and also had a dad that was a laborer. No one gave us anything. So exactly how are we privileged?

A guy I worked with had his fuck-up son charge a cop with a knife. He's dead now. He was quite white.

Maybe it was bad lighting, eh?

Black pre-teen from another town rides into Perth Amboy, NJ. Seven police cars surround him, he is arrested for not wearing a helmet and failure to produce proof that he actually owns the bicycle he is riding.

Gosh I never got arrested for riding a bike without a helmet AND I never had to carry a sales receipt in my pocket as a kid....but then, I'm not black either.

Why bother trying to show him anything? His brain doesn't function at an adult level.

It simply means, someone exactly like you, with very similar background, family, community situations as you would receive less opportunity due to their skin color, ethnic features and some other aspects of being human.

White Privilege varies based on circumstances for whites and is usually very consistent for people of color or ethnic background.

I am also from a very poor family and we didn't have a lot and I had to work hard and make a life for myself. I did experience white privilege, mostly without ever being aware of it. That is the hard part for whites or folks who blend or pass for white....it is invisible to us Because we never run up against that wall of racism, or it's minimal.

Yep, I was called all sort of names including whop and dago and other stuff.

My success is due in part to my passing as white, or white and know/learning the code....how to present myself and speak to other and I don't have the visually obvious features that eliminate me automatically from opportunity.

The quintessential statement indicating the person saying it has no idea what White privilege is (but likely benefits from it). ;)

White privilege doesn’t mean your life hasn’t been hard. It just means the color of your skin isn’t one of the things that makes it harder.

The son was "having a bad day."

Speaking of "having a bad day", a foul-mouthed white boy gets upset that he is pulled over by cops, curses them out, and reverses his car to get away with no consequence.

I wonder what teh consequences would have been had the guy been black?

White privilege is also about not losing what one has, whether it’s a way to conveniently vote, a neighborhood to Eminent Domain, or a family member to a war.

I've bookmarked this thread so the next time he goes full-sealion with his 'WHAR is "White Privilege" ?' rants I can simply link him to this thread to avoid thread deflection. :D

.
Wealth + power = privilege.

White Americans, on average possess 10x as much wealth as black Americans, and white Americans have an exponentially larger number of their peers in positions of power than black Americans, so in general white people have more privilege.

Privilege granted or denied, based on an individual's wealth and power, affects access and outcomes in all major facets of society. The justice system, education, healthcare, housing, financials, employment, and business

Disconnecting the white wealth and power privilege from the system is impossible, especially when that system was built on slavery, Jim Crow, segregation, and discrimination.

Are things changing???

Well, in 2012 there were 6 black CEOs of Fortune 500 companies. Today there are four.

When Covid hit, the minority community was disproportionately impacted harder than the white community; medically, educationally, and economically.

Hmmmm......
