Ok so although I've attempted some research I either find porn... or the question I'm searching an answer to isn't there.
What are real life boarding schools like? do they actually use corporal punishment? If not, how DO they handle troublesome students?

Thanks to anyone who knows the truth.

Yeah - all boarding schools are stuck in 1957, and resemble If and Dead Poet's Society.

The fuck?

spanking with a paddle. usually male on male. does that do it for you?

Ugh, i'm just asking what they are really like, it has nothing to do with sex/spanking or whatever your talking about.

The kind of punishment depends entirely on the school. However, as most boarding schools are entirely private, the easiest way to deal with troublesome students is detention, fatigue duties (menial chores during what would otherwise be freetime), denial of priviledges (essentially being grounded), extra academic work, suspension, and/or eventual expulsion.

The last one is the real killer, as parents are paying for tuition from their own pockets and expulsion means, in most cases, no refunds on the tuition. In addition, it means the parents have to find another school for the kid which becomes increasingly difficult.

So boarding schools aren't used as punishment themselves? I thought it would be difficult to get expelled (just like it would be difficult to leave the military once you got in... well honorably anyways)

Do people still go to boarding schools? The only ones I'm aware of are military schools. Doesn't mean they don't exist, just that I don't think I've ever met anyone who went to one or even knew of one.

that's probably because they aren't exactly cheap. a quick google search found three in michigan. tuition for boarding students is close to $40,000 a year. on average it's apparently $43,000 for boarding students and $23,900 for non.

The classwork was hard as hell. Subsequently, though, it made college a breeze.

No, not really.

Sending a kid to a boarding school as 'punishment' is more of a plot device for a piece of fiction than a reality as there aren't that many who can afford it.

In addition, a good many boarding schools depend on maintaining a preception of high academic standards and high rate of their graduates getting into college, so they tend to weed out the troublemakers during the admission process.

On the other hand, one doesn't pay tuition to get into the military. One does sign a legally binding contract giving the military 10 years of one's life (with US Armed Forces at any rate) in a combination of active and reserve duty.

FYP..

Perg and I went to one. The president, his predecessor, and the one before him did also.

Corporal punishment is shite. As mentioned, menial tasks and detention. Expulsion is not uncommon, since an expelled student can always return to a public school.

The smartest kids do not attend boarding schools, on the whole. The smartest kids in boarding schools are as smart as the smartest kids in public school, but not much smarter.

But when you're 14 years old and must wear a jacket and tie everyday, you become accustomed to dressing and thinking like a grownup. That is invaluable experience.

I was sent to an English boarding school - girls only. English is not my first language so, in those days, it was difficult. It was a nightmare.
I ran away after 7 weeks.
My theory is that parents who send their children to boarding school do not love them.

"You may be right and you may be wrong,
not going to worry all day long.

The winds gonna blow and the snow's going to bite,
my old car froze up last night.

Ain't no reason to hang my head,
I could wake up in the morning dead."

Or - we parents send a child to boarding school because we love them enough to stop them from fucking up their entire lives and to help them become a better person when everything else has failed.
We sent my step-daughter to a Christian boarding school for 2 years because she was, quite simply, out of control. (And because, her mother had her forcibly removed from my care, but didn't want her anywhere near her either, so she would have been forced into state care had we not put her into boarding school.)

Boarding school made a world of difference.

You weren't born with a set of instructions or a warranty taped to your ass. We all do the best we can with what we have.

You really are an insignificant moron. Obtuse as well as a walking, talking example for the benefits of abortion.

Of course I am, so are you.

On the other hand as a parent I've been quite successful, how about you?
