A good read. Did not realize that the red states were so dependent on the federal government. An opinion piece but I'm assuming their facts are correct.
Sometimes you have to carry the have not states for the sake of the nation. Canada has have not provinces which are virtually funded by Ontario and Quebec. But they at least don't get in the habit of biting the hand that feeds them.
Thought the bit about Amtrak was good.
I would like to see the blue state refuse federal money and go their own way It would be an interesting experiment. Well until something broke down from catastrophic natural disaster or a major bridge fell down. I think the whole we are not part of the Federal Gov would fall apart.

It would depend on the amount of taxes that we would pay to protect ourselves. Imaging cutting out the vampire federal administration.
Also, some states need to learn a hard lesson.
Welfare queens.Wish blue states would leave....I'd pack up and leave the left coast if the commies were taking it.
Move right into the Rockies and watch ya'll starve to death as you chased every money maker out of your country.
They aren't dependent.
They just take the free B's from the idiots giving it to them.
Texas used to be a contributor then it wised the fuck up.
Welfare queens.
Would include the blue states that opted out? What lesson would they learn?
Why not?
Blue states are handing out money!!![]()
Point of the article, wasn't it, that maybe they should stop?
Why would they opt out of utopia?
That answer did not answer my question. What states would learn their lesson?

The article was about the red states learning a lesson. I can't say that would understand enough to learn anything.

Did you read the article? I thought it was well explained.
I saw the article as less a serious proposal than a rebuttal to the widespread belief in Red America that they are the "makers" and the blue states are the "takers." Ain't so.
Who claims it is?Well, that's not very "progressive" of them.
