Everyone has an annual low point. For me it's July, so last year about this time a friend sent me this:
********
Rx for Blues:
Laughing. A great medicinal cure-all. Put on a comedy album or watch a comedy video or go to a comedy club.
Go see a foreign movie with subtitles.
Find a hope. Dream it in vivid detail and living color. Daydream it every day. Think about it just before you go to sleep.
Join a group or club.
Spend money. Buy something nice for yourself, but don't over do it.
Get your hair and nails done. Get a makeover.
Go on a diet.
Change your hairstyle. Cut your hair short or bald. Streak it.
Do something good for someone else for no reason.
Get outside. Mix with nature. Take a hike.
Go buy some incense or burn a scented candle
Play a vigorous sport (one you can play by yourself) until you can't stand up any more. The possibility of getting beat competitively is not what you need
right now.
Hang around people who have it worse off than you do.
Call or write to an old friend
Play your favorite tune over and over again. (I do this)
Do something nostalgic. (I do this)
Go thru your house and or closet and start throwing out all the old stuff you know you are never really going to use or wear again. (I do this)
Play a different kind of music that you are used to listening to. Search for a new radio station. I like to do this.
Go to the book store at an odd hour when few people will be there. Browse in unusual sections. I like to do this.
Respond to an editorial in a newspaper that you feel strongly about.
Go to a karaoke club and sing your ass off.
Find a worthy cause.
Write a letter to yourself.
Physically move to a different house or city. Start over, Make new friends.
Change jobs!!!
Find people who need and appreciate what you have to offer, and service their needs.
Set new goals and go after them.
Reminisce about the good times.
Volunteer for something.
If you are not sleeping well, try taking two aspirin or Tylenol before bed.
Get a new mattress.
Try a getting off to a new sexual fantasy. (I do this)
Try remembering to breathe....deeply.
Sleep in late, or get up extra early.
Go to church alone and pray.
Go to a sauna, and let your pores sweat out all the poison.
Have your colon cleaned.
Talking to someone who cares has helped a lot. Usually I don't plan these events. They just happen. People who care, will find you, if you put the thought out into the firmament.
Plan a trip. If you can't afford to fly, take the bus or drive. Maybe it's just the weekend. Take a train.
Take a balloon ride.
....write to a friend...
