Has anyone tried it for circadian rhythm sleep disorders?

or for anything else like depression? SAD?

If so, how did it work?

Blue?

I have to read up on BLUE. My understanding was that the best light for SAD & depression was FULL SPECTRUM ie WHITE.

I did read that a blue light will stave off sleepiness when driving. So it does have some effect on the brain. Not sure how long the effect lasts either.

for a short period of time I was using a light box to help with my SAD during the winter months. I don't have it as badly as I did a few years ago but boy was it brutal when December rolled around. I found it to be quite helpful to me in improving my moods but for the best benefit i got out of it, i would have to be in front of it for 2 to 4 hours which i hardly ever managed. It is especially useful for reading and doing homework in front of so if you can devote a few hours a day to it i would definitely recommend at least giving it a try.

The box i was using had full spectrum fluorescent lights designed to give all the normal wavelengths you would experience while outdoors. What you mentioned about blue light therapy is a new take on the same treatment. As i understand it, recent research on mood disorders has shown that a lower intensity of deep blue light can give an equal boost to serotonin production as a much brighter full spectrum bulb. I don't know if there are additional benefits to using the blue light over the traditional full spectrum bulbs but you might ask a doctor about it for more details or do further reading yourself. Personally i think I would still start off with the full spectrum light box just because if i have to be sitting in front of it for a few hours i guess i would prefer it to be bright enough that i could read by it.

Thanks Breezyblue!

Bluewave or blue light therapy has no UV and supposed to use less light than the full spectrum light boxes.

I will be using for sleep issues, and the proposed schedule is twice a day for 30 mins.

Supposed its enough light to read by.

So I am on Day 14

I use the blue light 4 times a day at this point. for 1/2 hr in the morning and evening and 15 mins twice in between. Using this light and schedule based on this assessment. You can try the test yourself and see how you do.

I probably should get the battery pack for it too.

Changes I have notices:
More awake and more energy after using light, kind of like speedy, I suppose. Things that would normally take me a half to a full day to do can be done under 2 hours.
Skin changes, calmer.
Sleep is different. More dreaming. Still waking up, still taking some drugs but 1/2 doses. Have had 3 days of no sleep meds, but its still intermittent. Getting about 5-6 hrs sleep instead of 2-4.
Less forgetting and/or giving up because its too hard to remember or think about stuff.
Light lifts mood, I can understand the warnings about using the box too much and mania.

I still cling to fading images to sleep on....
