Blue Highways

Blue Highways. Some of the threads in the last couple of days started me thinking this morning about the blue highways in my life. On maps the roads less traveled are marked in blue. William Least Heat-Moon has written a wonderful book called Blue Highways about his travel down the blue highways.

Coming to lit is a blue highway for most of us. Exploring our sexuality in an environment that offers us safety but is still different than the norm.

So many meanings, so many roads to travel. Do you travel a blue highway? What has the exploration meant to you?

I was chatting with the sister of a friend from another state in the early morning, and...(I'm trying to leave an unrecognizable trail)

we were talking about this highway...this road less traveled. There are so many external, cultural forces that make this road blue. Getting on track can be a tumultuous choice. It sends reverberations throughout your past. It can even shake the family tree. But..

it can be like the beginning of new life. It can turn your eyesight into something that feels, and your breath into laughter. It's not a destination...it's a curious journey.
