According to a reasonably substantiated rumour, the Sun newspaper in England is currently planning to out an England RU player. I know who it is and haven't a scoob if he's gay or not, but the Sun apparently have enough courage of their convictions to put pressure on him to tell all. Or they'll do it for him tomorrow.

This is quite possibly the worst thing I've ever heard. If the player is gay, then he's obviously not ready to be publicly out to England at large. Otherwise he would already be out. It's none of their business and it's not the British public's business.

Horrible taste in my mouth from this.

I agree with you Earl. It is not journalism, it is sensationalism. and absolute fucking bullshit.

leave dude alone to let him decide how much he wants to share...

I agree that it's absolute bullshit, but unfortunately, as a whole, America is very hypocritical about this subject. There's plenty of trash publications out there that do this sort of thing and Americans spend tens of millions of dollars on them every year.

You parot-cage-liner will certainly make money off of this no matter what the public thinks of them.

I remember right after 9/11 how all the news and government agencies were saying how they've realized just how trivial the news is that they report on all the time. Things like terrorism and people dying for no good reason takes a back burner to trivial things like a the OJ Simpson trial, or what have you. Then today on the news I see a pretty good amount of air time going to the bullshit that "the stars" are going through to look good at the Oscars while a story having to do with a new treatment for prostate cancer gets barely 10 seconds of exposure.

These are the priorities of the masses, ladies and gentlemen.

I don't think the US has anything quite as low as the Sun. That newspaper has caused a lot of famous people to avoid living here. It's a Rupert Murdoch paper, along with the Times (!)

Repugnant Rupert (Murdoch) strikes again. There is no arguement that makes this right. Even if the character in question is leading a 'double life' - it's still 'their' business until they decide to make it ours.

Not to mention that it's pretty sick that we still live in a world where people want to read in magazines about sexual preferences of celebrities. Who gives a shit. It's not like the biggest thing if a person is gay. Do we still live in the middle-ages for christs sake?

I mean, even if I'm a fan of his I don't care whether he is gay or not but whether he is a good rugby-player or not.

Snoopy, shaking head, having always hated the 'Sun'

It's the fact that the guy kept it a secret that's the problem.

Shit, I don't think there's anyone that did more for acceptance of gays than Freddy Mercury. I remember in listening to them in high school and being a bit uncomfortable with the fact initially (did anyone not know?). But the music won out.

It didn't seem to hurt that republican Arizona Senator (whatshisname).

Did they out themselves, or were they forced to fess up by some sleazy, sensationalist rag?

That's the difference here.
