Someone take my Civilisation 3 disk away and burn it. I have coursework to do and I'm already planning an all nighter. I did not need to lose 5 hours to that addictive bloody game.

Just one more turn. Just finish this bit. Invade these people, just take this city, get this technology. There's never a point where you can stop, so you just keep going on and on and on and on and on.

I think my computer took pity on me. It crashed the game so that I had to look at the clock and realise just how much time had been eaten away.

Bloody Sid Meier.

My box has a 'z' on it. Yours has an 's'?

:D

*whip crack*

Move your ass, buddy! The sooner you finish your coursework, the sooner you can receive your benefits. Backrubs, your favorite suppers and all the sex you can handle...just as soon as you're finished.

I've lost weeks of my life to the early versions of that game. I don't buy the new ones cuz I know I can't afford to spend that kind of time.

He was fucking brilliant to create that game, wasn't he?

And people think time travel is not possible... They don't realize that computer games are self contained time machines that wisk you into the future.

I had to give up all those games. It was either that or give up masturbation.... there's really no contest.

Since it's a title, wouldn't that mean you'd done the opposite? ;)

Earl, I feel your pain. :rose:

Whatever you bloody do, do not buy Rome: Total War. That's even worse!

Since getting it a couple of weeks ago, I've completed the Imperial Campaign, conquering Rome with my iron fist and I'm such a bloody expantionist, I just had have all those 55 territories. And don't even get me started on the individual battles. They're awesome! (I don't know if you've seen Time Commanders on the BBC? It's run off the same software engine).

Anyway, whatever you do, don't get it.

;)

I've lost countless hours to games by sid Mier. Railraod tycoon was my favorite. But Civ and alph centuari both ate up hours and don't ever get me started on pirates!

All my political opinions come from playing CIV II.

Did anyone notice?

Seriously, some guy was ranting to me recently about Aussie football being the opiate of the masses here (and how much he loathed football). I replied "But football leads to a more civil society - build a stadium and you won't need as many police".

Suddenly, struck by the CIV II connection, I spent the entire remainder of the conversation using "CIV II speak". Things like "the attainment of women's suffrage was important though, was it not? Allowing society to function, with less civil unrest, even whilst many young men fought in bloody wars in foreign lands" and..."the creation of miltia might be cheap so far as resources are concerned, but effective an military can only be achieved through training in widely distributed barracks - such trained military willl enter battle with veteran-like capabilities". At first he was nodding and agreeing - then I think he started to wonder why everything I said was strangely general, as if applying to some abstract world that did not exist.

Jeez, I am an arsehole sometime.

I've finally weaned myself off of Civilisation. Mostly because I got sick of having to run all my aircraft's recon missions myself.

Liked the changes to diplomacy and espionage in Civ III.

Hated how it made my favourite Wonder, The Great Library, such a useless piece of shit.

Loved how you can now culturally 'conquer' other civ's cities.

It still favours warlords though. I hate fighting wars. They're expensive and stupid.

But God, I miss Pirates. That was such a fucking hoot.

They rereleased Pirates and the new version kicks serious butt. Sid Meier is definitely an evil bugger for the time he has stolen from me over the years. Civ 3 was host to a couple of moments of "hey where did tuesday go?" wherein full days where lost to a successful stretch of campaign.

There's a new version of Pirates?

I wish you hadn't told me that. Goodbye to the next couple of years.

If you don't hear from me, don't worry.

I admit it.. i was a Civilization captive for more years than I care to admit....

But now I'm hooked on something worse... Tiberian Sun...

And it ain't even the game, It's the skirmishs (Practices) that are the most fun....

I gave up computer games after The Sims. I was an addict. I admit it. So, no computer games for me now.

But all this Civ talk sure brings back memories. I played the original Civ, so it's been a long time. Getting kinda nostalgic. ;)

*stands up*

SF: "Ahem. Hi... My name's Svenskaflicka, and I'm a Civilization Addict."

Crowd: "Hi, Svenskaflicka!"

*breaks into tears*

SF: "I'm so relieved to learn that I'm not alone!"

Colonization. Woof. Railroad tycoon, OMG. And civ. Great games.
