Word on the street is that they're closing stores all over the country. Is it true?

Chime in here with any news. Where I am, they just closed two big ones within blocks of each other - literally overnight.

I haven't been in a Blockbuster in at least 5 years. Too many other options are available out there.

link or it aint true.

BB sucks anyways.

They were having problems late last year. That was the first I heard of it. Not much since, though . . .

You obviously don't spend much time in the 9/11 threads. If there isn't a link then it's simply not true.

*chuckle* Exactly. What was I thinking?

Blockbuster Video is horrible. Netflix is much better.

I hate standing in line to spend money.

I hate Blockbuster, and wish them a painful death. But perhaps the "thumbs up" was too subtle...

Anyhow, any other closing sightings?

My husband managed the busiest store in Canada several years ago. They aren't closing up here that I know of.

It's not surprising that Blockbuster, or any major video rental chain, is experiencing problems.

The video rental business is a very mature business that has undergone massive changes over the past several years.

The rise of DVDs and the extra and improved content available with the DVD format has given rise to the new trend of consumers "building a film library." Such a development reduces the necessity to rent videos - that just over 10 years ago were still fairly expensive.

Rental prices have also increased drastically in recent years. Instead of spending a couple bucks to get a movie for the night, people are facing expenses of 10 to 15 bucks for a couple movies.

I joined Netflix.com.

I've only used my Block Buster card once and I've had it for 3 years.

So, do you still have a store nearby? I think they've closed every one within a 30-mile radius of me.

Terrible video stores and probably deserve whatever fate has befallen them.

Yeah, but, apparently there ain't no competition to replace them -- other than their real business-killing competition, which is Netflix, etc. Only DVD's I've watched lately came from the public library.
