OOC: Based on the film Blind Date (starring Kim Basinger and Bruce Willis), this thread casts myself and Maid of Marvels as the oddball couple.

However, it is not a strictly a 1-2-1 thread and we would like other people to join to play the supporting characters (though we will leave it up to you on who they are). Please feel free to come in at any time.

So, without further ado, let the action begin...

David

"Another late night?"

I look up and see Bob, my Head of Department standing in front of my desk.

Looking at the computer, I see that it's already 7.30 in the evening.

"Yeah!" I groan. "Got to make sure that the new software is configured and running on the client's Finance network before 8 tomorrow morning."

"Okay, David. " he says as he walks out of the door, "Goodnight."

I smile. Being the Technical Manager of a Support Desk for a multi-national computer company is a great job but is so time consuming. I can't remember the last time I got home before nine.

Stretching my arms, I look at the screen which is running the new software on the client's system. Usually, this is dealt with by a member of my team. However, since it is especially an important job, the Chairman had asked me to do it personally. How could I refuse?

"Oh by the way, David." Bob calls out through the door, "Don't forgot Saturday night."

Oh blast!

I had forgotten about that. Members of the company had been invited to a special fund raising event being organised by this particular client. I had been asked to go due to the close working relationship I had established with them.

The trouble is, thanks to work, my social life is almost non-existent. That includes having no girlfriend (and I can't remember the last time I had any sex).

I sit back scratching my head.

Who can I ask?

None of the girls in the office that for sure. Besides, I have already tried and they are either (a) coming along with a partner or (b) got other plans.

I've got no idea.

Putting the problem to one side for the time being, I carry on with my work...

The young red-haired woman walked into the offices that night expecting to find no one.

"Oh, I'm sorry," she said. "Generally when I come to clean there's no one here this time of night, if you want me to leave to clean some of the other offices while you work, I can come back later."

Hearing no immediate response, she told the gentlman her name was Nita, that she worked nights for the cleaning service for the building and went to school days. "Again, if you want me to work in another office I can, or I can work around you, Sir,'" Nita said.

I suddenly realise that someone's talking to me.

"Huh? Oh sorry, was miles away." lifting my head up. "Yeah! Go ahead."

I immediately switch my attention back to the monitor, determined to get the job done and get out of the office as soon as possible...

Nita

Nita was taken aback by the man's response. It was like he didn't even notice she was there. She didn't consider herself bad looking at 5-7, 120, with reddish hair, blue eyes; yet he ignored her and went on about his work as though she didn't exist.

She really this job, but needed all the extra cash she could get for school.

"Fine, I'll clean up around here first and try not to bother you," she said to the man curtly.

David

I am just about got back into the job when I hear that the girl is talking to me again.

"Okay!" I tell her, not even looking up from the screen, my fingers rapidly typing away at the keyboard...

ooc: No! That's not true!

OOC: I'm sorry. I didn't mean to give that impression at all. It's just that David (my character) is desperate to get this job he is doing finished. As soon as he has finished (which will be the next post), you will find he's not so stand-offish. :)

OOC: Okay, I think she's a college girl trying to make some extra money. I never looked at her a major player in this.

David

(OOC: Fair enough!)

"Finished!" I say to myself, as I lean back in my chair.

Looking at my watch, I see that it's 9 o'clock.

"Damn! Missed Moonlighting. Never mind."

Closing down my PC, I get up to leave, grabbing my coat on the way.

Then I notice the young cleaner working in the next office.

Remembering that I was pretty abrupt with her, I apologise...

Nita

"It's okay, " she tells him. "You looked pretty busy and it made the job somewhat easier for me, not trying to make a buck whereever I can to help with school-my names name's Nita."

The poor guy looked tired out she thought to herself, and pretty tense. God, she thought, I'm going to school for this kind of stuff-gotta be an easier way to make money.

David

"David." I reply.

"I'm going home. If you want, I could give you a lift." She's only a kid and I do not like the idea of her catching the bus on her own this time of night...

Nita

"Well, David, I'm trying to save every dime I can for school, so sure, I'm about done anyway," she responds.

David

"Okay! I'll wait for you downstairs."

Yawning, David goes downstairs and starts to chat to the Night Watch Man.

Hope she doesn't take too long. Got an early morning meeting tomorrow!...

Nita

Nita quickly finished up her work. She had been just about done anyway. Going quickly down to the first floor, she saw him talking to the night watchman. She wondered what he was telling the man recalling a night she was short on cash to take the bus home. Great she thought to herself, he's probably telling him how he gave me 25 bucks. Not that she didn't earn of course, but watchman was a creep and this guy seemed like such a nice man.

David

"There you are." I say to her as she appears.

Saying goodnight to Hector (the Night Watchman), we leave the building and head of my car.

I don't see Hector lustfully stare at the young girl as she walks past...

Nita

Nita casts a look of evil at Hector as she exits the building with David. Walking with him to the parking garage, not a word is spoken by either of them. As they walk, he pulls his keys from his pants pocket, pushes a button to unlock the doors of a nice, large car, he opens the door on the passenger side for her. He stands behind her as she begins to get in. Someday, she thought, I'll have a car like this.

David

Damn! It's going to rain! I think to myself as I feel the first drops as I go round to my side of the car.

"You okay?" I ask the girl as I get in, noticing how much quieter she is then she was in the office.

She just nods.

Turning on the ignition, I reverse the car out of the parking space and then drive out of the car park to join the main traffic.

"Where do you live?" I ask her, needing directions, noticing that the rain is now coming down in buckets, my wipers going at full pelt trying to keep the water off the windscreen.

She tells me.

Just then a car, deciding to overtake me, carves me up and then stalls. Unable to stop, I go sliding into the back of it.

"What the..??" I curse angrily, not believing what has just happened. Getting out and getting thoroughly soaked instantly, I march over to the other car...

Nita

Nita didn't notice the car until almost the point of impact. She hadn't seen it pass as she quietly rode in the front seat. She threw her hands on the dash just before the cars hit. She wasn't hurt, but heard David swearing and then watched as he exited the car. She couldn't understand why he was so upset.

David

Angrily, I stride up to the other car and wrench open the driver's door.

Inside, is a woman looking up at me, shocked.

"Look, lady!" I yell. "I don't what your game is but I never seen such appalling driving in my...aahhh...ahh...aaahhchoooo!!"

Unable to stop, I start sneezing violently.

What the...?

Then I see the reason why.

Cats!!!!

She has cats in the back seat.

And I am allergic to cats.

I start sneezing all over again as she starts screaming at me...

Closing thread...

OCC: Have decided to close this thread and reopen it under another name.

Thanks for your participation, Bearlee.

David

(OOC: Let's get started then! ;))

"Okay, no-one yells at me and lives! Especially no-one who has stinking cats!"

Stepping back, I pull out my tommy gun...
