Given the prevalence of Suicide Threads at Lit, perhaps Lit should train Moderators to watch for such threads and take appropriate steps.

The Lit FAQ's outline in a very slim way the duty of Lit Moderators to help make our time here "fun".

Given the way some Moderators post and the 6 days it took for someone to pay attention to and do something about Moderator BlessedBe's suicide threat, I suggest that Suicide threads are anything but "fun", that hoaxes are anything but "fun" and the way Lit doesn't deal with them is shameful.

A training program and communication plan is required to handle these situations.

Most choose not to carry on such conversations on the General Board, or within public view at all. For many, Lit's forums are merely a jumping-off point for more meaningful contact.

Just because there happened to be someone from before who would make idle threats about ending his life then never followed through - thankfully- doesn't mean it's perfectly fine to make light of someone elses troubles or depression.

Why is it so difficult for some people to understand the meaning of respect? We don't know the situation, who are we to sit in judgement?

I spent a lot of time on the Playground posting and PM-ing and bringing information forward, bumping up threads, asking who knew her, looking up police and newspaper phone numbers and urging KillerMuffin to do something, which she thankfully did today.

But that's not the point, except to illustrate that it could have just aseasily gone the other way....with nobody doing anything or expressing any care as to whether she lives or dies.

Obviously she needs help at this time. I hope she gets it. I hope people who know her keep contacting her.

I have no idea who BlessedBe is, and I don't have sig lines turned on, so I don't know what's going on down there. I never said I don't give a fuck, nor am I maligning anyone. I simply questioned your characterization of "Lit" as not doing anything. "Lit" is not one entity, nor does it act with a singular mindset. Simply because you are not cognizant of others' actions does not mean things are not happening outside your view. The forums are a shallow world. People are not.
