hi,
I just submitted a story,
pasted it in .... went through it with the spell check,
filled in all the required info

hit the box... preview ....

it went to a blank page

I waited 60 secs, hit the back button to find my story gone,
all my time and effort wasted !

Sorry to hear you're having troubles. I see that a lot of people have been over the past couple of months. And...

That's why you do all you did in a word processor on you computer before you cut and paste it in to the form. There are free ones out there - Libre Office, Open Office (actually the same thing, except Libre Office is for 64bit operating systems) You could have used wordpad, it comes free with windows.

Next time try just refreshing the page, instead of doing a back/forward.

THANKS for reply,
of course I did prepare things before, I only adjusted a few spellings
when I saw they were highlighted after I pasted the story in.

Anyway, Ill go give it another try and avoid using the back button !

Success !

no problems this time..... it has been submitted,
I must wait for 72 hours or so for it to go thru !

BTW the quick reply option in here is nt working for me .

As there is a contest currently running the wait time may be a little longer then the 72 hour estimate in the FAQ. And as you are a new author, that might add another day. Sorry, but Laurel tries her best.

As for the quick reply option...you just can't go to the box, you have to click the quick reply icon in one of the posts.

Holly cow... they make you wait...

must be a week now since I posted my Emma Watson story

I wish they d tell me ... yeah or nay !

I got the blank page when I hit preview today as well. I just filled all of the information in again and it activated OK then. The last few days I've been getting the false error page as well when I submitted a story.

I got the blank page several times today when I pressed the PREVIEW button.

Always give Manu a heads up when you have a problem. Include the time, type browser, any other information that might be helpful in troubleshooting the problem.

I got an error page a couple of times posting the above.

I don't have the time to point out all of the nonfunctionality here. And when I did, Laurel called me a troll and denied that there was anything nonfunctional in this Web site. I suppose that might play with prospective advertisers thinking that everything on offer here actually worked.

Ditto, I've been getting the blank page thing for a couple months now, but I no longer bother pointing anything out.

I still can't get over a business-any business-that knows they have a non functional contact us button and don't care. Wonder how many advertising opportunities they've lost?

Free Word Procs

I think it's worth reminding writers about 'other' Word Processors for the PC which seem to do OK.
The beauty of them is they are FREE.

Jarte; This neat add-on slots over Microsoft’s own Word Pad Text Ed.
What comes out is a quite handy little gadget for writing a bit more that “Dear Aunty”.
And it has a reasonable Dictionary, font control and decent page layout commands.

Kingsoft Writer: This looks very like Microsoft Word and has a very, very similar command structure.

AbiWord: A neat little thing that includes a separate dictionary for American and British.
I've not used it in anger.

Libre Office: Microsoft Office in drag. It does the lot!
May also be found as "Apache Office".

Lotus Symphony: I’ve never used it but I managed to download a free copy.

There’s also “Office Now” and “yWriter” which I’ve never seriously tried.
yWriter demands a particular method of writing; I tried it and did not rate it that much, but there are those on Lit who do use it quite happily.

yWrite allows you to write in scenes, like a movie or television show. It also allows you to define your character and other items you will need to have a complete bible of your novel.

I have used it for novel length ebooks. My first one was written using yWrite.

I like the scene aspect of yWrite as that's the way I think about my writing. Almost as if it was a screenplay.
