If you don't know what to do ask the dealer. Never stop while down, it is a game is statistics and you will eventually break even. Always stop when your are up 75% of your bank. Leave when a Asian female dealer hits the table.

Play the low tables, don't drink too much.

Those are givens. The $5 table, no more than a couple of glasses of wine and take only the cash I'm ok to lose to have fun.

The actual game interests me....that fact that it's not always a losers game.

Drink gallons of booze...

...so when you're enjoying such a capitalist game, you won't hear so well the ideological voice in your head telling you to slit your wrists for being such an intellectually traitorous wanker.

Even if you play perfect it will eventually be a losers game... Always. It is a game of peaks and lows. Determine the peak and walking away is the key.

DO NOT forget to look at the dealer's card! You are not playing against the others at the table, and you're not just trying to get to 21 - you are playing against the dealer. If he's likely to bust, don't hit.

I should have qualified what I meant by losers - I meant that you can potentially minimise your losses by fully understanding the game. All the other games are strictly random chance.

If you have 11 or less take a hit, no matter what the dealer has showing. You cannot loose, but it could help you win. Also, split aces or eights, double down on 9, 10, or 11; especially if it looks like the dealer will bust. You will win twice as much.

i can't give you any tips, but i can tell you "good luck"

thanks ;)

Thanks, this sounds like serious advice....I'm not even sure what it means though...
A trip to the book shop to buy a book about Blackjack is in order I think.

Spend as much time as you can before you go learning Basic Strategy and do not deviate from it.

Playing Basic Strategy, you are only giving the house a a 0.5% edge over you in the long term. Any other strategy gives the house a 5% through 50% advantage.

Don't pretend you can count cards. If you can, good for you, but pretending can cost fortunes. Casinos love bad card counters.

I've done OK (not huge but OK) by playing Straight Basic Strategy with Trending bets. (larger bets the hand following one where a lot of low cards have been played).

Always sit at the third base seat. Trust your guts. If you think he's going to deal a 10 and it would hurt him, pass and let him get it.

And never ever be afraid to pick up your chips and walk away to another table. Never sit there with a bad vibe about the dealer.
