Man arrested in toddler's death

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) - A 29-year old man from Chad, Africa has been arrested in connection with the death of a three-year-old Fort Wayne boy.

According to police and coroner reports, Jevon LaWayne Southall was taken by ambulance to St. Joe Hospital at 3:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Hospital officials called police because doctors suspected the boy was the victim of a battery. Southall was transferred to Lutheran Hospital so he could receive more sophisticated acute care. He was pronounced dead by hospital officials at Lutheran at 8:32 p.m.

The coroner says the boy's death was the result of subdural hematoma sustained from blunt force trauma.

After an investigation, police arrested Abdallah Goroumi. Goroumi is the boyfriend of Southall's mother and had been living with the family. They believe Goroumi hit the boy while he was caring for him at their residence located at 233 West Pontiac Street.

Goroumi has been charged with Battery to a Child Causing Death.

This was the 20th homicide in Allen County so far this year.
