Interesting, though, in view of the supposedly small number of Black people in the SM community.

Black BEAT 2003 will be held in the D.C. Metro area in August of 2003.

my Master's debating whether we're going to this or not...on the one hand we don't care for large events, and as we don't fit into the mainstream bdsm world, we aren't into the munch type thing either. but then it may be worth attending just to find some others of color in our area in the lifestyle.

As I read it, "all races" is not on the list. It seems to suggest that a Black person of any ethnicity, i.e., Cuban, Kenyan, or Argentinian will be accepted.

Just as there are 'all women' conferences, I don't see why there could not be an 'all Black' conference, though of course there are all shades of skin color.

Yes. Black BEAT welcomes anyone who wishes to partake in this event. Our goal is to reach those of like mind with a strong focus on African-Americans.

lol yeah, I read that too, Pure. (If we are splitting hairs between ethnicity and race, then race 'Black" and gender/sex 'women' would also differ.) So, does this mean you'll be going and reporting back?

I would imagine it's purpose is not to be rigidly exclusive, but to be more inclusive to and focused on the "invisible" BDSM minority, but I could be wrong. I hope people here will attend and tell all of us about this first time event!

Personally, I think this is kinda cool. I actually didn't even realize the entire BDSM community was that large here in the DC area, much less a smaller portion of the community being big enough to host an event such as this in the nations capital. But then, this is a politcal town and god knows what goes on behind closed doors around here.

Has anyone seen any references to the location? All I've been able to find is just "DC metropolitan area".

This was the only reference I found in FAQS: Where are most of the activities being held?

The dungeon, all conference events, all activities will be held at the host hotel.



You can probably find out which hotel is hosting through inquiry or registration at the website.

I'm Going To Black BEAT 2003

Hello everyone,

This is really nice. I was surprised to receive this link in email. The word of this event BEAT is spreading. I am a Board Member of Black BEAT and PR Chair, and would be happy to answer any questions or just join in discussion. I will definately be there!

I would like to address two post: We have not disclosed it publically to avoid possible conflict from groups or the media opposing what it is that we do. All ethnicities are welcome, yet the focus is on AA in BDSM.

Thanks for creating this forum. It's nice to see folks talk about it.

I'm attending Black BEAT 2003, in Maryland

Greetings everyone

i was pleasantly surprised to read this thread and see such a wonderful event being discussed. i am *very* excited to be taking part in this event and i strongly encourage everyone to come and support this endeavor.

This is going to be something different from just the ordinary convention, they have added some spice, mystery, adventure and a whole lotta SOUL!! *EVERYONE* is invited, Race, Ethnicity, or Sexual preference doesn't matter.

Come have a good time, bring a friend, come alone, come in a group, bring your Dom or sub/slave or leave them at home, they don't care, just as long as you are there. If you come alone, you don't have worry they will have a kink pal to show you the "ropes."

As you can see i am a poster child for BB, but in all honesty it will be nice to meet those that i have meet online for the first time and i plan to make new friends as well. For those on this list that wish to learn more about BB, please visit their website at
