Yesterday I had a discussion with a female friend who said she only gives blow jobs to her boyfriend if he wears a condom. She says as much as he tells her he loves her she can never be sure 'where he's been'. She claims that he says it is a great feeling and takes nothing away from the blow job.

First of all, I don't think using a condom is completely 'safe sex' in this case. Plus, I do not believe it could be nearly as stimulating as a non-condom blow job for either the woman or the man. However, I have never had it done this way so I can't be sure.

Any opinions?

I understand the concerns, with AIDS and all, but I really miss the days when a condom wa for not getting a girl pregnant, thats it, thats all, nada.

I complain a lot about my wife, but I sure don't want to go back on the market anytime soon. I've never had a BJ thru a condom and its not something I'd really look forward to.

Using condoms during blow jobs (also using barrier protection w/ male to female oral sex) is the absolute best precaution to disease other than abstinence from the activity. Of course HIV is the disease of the most importance because it kills, but other STD's are no picnic. Herpes and HPV (genital warts) can be passed through oral sex also. Oral (Herpes Simplex I) herpes can transmit to the genitals and gential Herpes (Herpes Simplex II) can trasmit to the mouth and surrounding tissue.

However I learned through my local health department that there has been no documented case of HIV transmission through oral sex. The means are there, exposure to sexual fluids and a sore or open place in the mouth, but likelihood of that form of transmission is slim because of the acids in the mouth and digestive track. It seems to me this information is accurate because I believe use of barrier protection with oral sex is very limited compared with intercourse sex, and thus the disease incidence would be even higher than it already is in that case.

It makes no sense in a lot of ways, but I happen to be one of those people who use condoms for intercourse, but not oral sex.

Condoms are good for diseases that reside in the urethra or seminal fluids--HIV, Chalmydia, Trichomoniasis, Hepatitis. However, genital warts and herpes afflict areas not covered by the condom. Be well.

YEAH!!!! I'm soooo happy that some people know why a condom isn't entirely safe sex for oral sex (herpes and HPV and a few others that are less common). Some people think that the only places STI's (infections instead of "D" for disease) occur are the penis and the vagina when in fact they can occur in the whole genital region or mouth or anus. I know--not a nice thought but it's the truth.

Back when I was dating they had mint condoms which were nice, the were regular condoms you buy in the drug store, not those novelty things but said mint "scented" on the box... howvever you could taste the mint as well. I loathe condoms with a passion. I am very, very choosey about who I get in bed with and on a few occasions have even insisted on us both getting tested and not just for HIV. Why both? Well, if I expect him to, why shouldn't I offer him the same peace of mind?

I can certainly understand the reasoning behind using a condom. These days, it's better safe than sorry.

Once you've gotten to know someone, though, I think the rubbers should come off. I would hate to think someone doesn't trust me enough to enjoy oral sex (giving or receiving) without some kind of plastic barrier.

The sole purpose of oral sex is to give and receive pleasure. Why waste it when you can taste it?
