I'm a new author to this site. I've written all sorts of romantic stories in the past, and I've been picking at one that's finally taking the plunge and going erotic. The snag is getting myself to take the plunge and get the sex scenes out of my brain and into the story.

I was wondering if other authors had or have problems with this. It's rather strange to think that I'm actually shy or embarassed to type out what's always going on in my head.

I don't want to just rush through it either, because then the whole story will just be complete crap. Basically I've gone through about nine pages of set up and development. If I do much more, I'm going to bore my audience.

I've gotten right up to the removal of clothing, and all I can do is stare at the screen and drum my fingers on the keys. It's not so much writer's block, because I know how I want the scene to progress.

Basically it's just irritating. I thought reading back over some of my favorite stories on the site would inspire me a little more, but it just seems to be another form of procrastination, lol.

At some point or another I think everyone has found the sex scenes to be difficult. My adivce is just write it. Force it if you have to. It may come out crap, but you will find it easier to edit the crap to waht you want than you will to stare at nothing and wish you could make it what you want.

Too true. It seems like my brain is just shutting down when I stare at the screen. Then I skitter off for a glass of water or to tease the cat. Procrastination is a beautiful thing.

I have the opposite problem, my characters can't stop fucking and have a conversation.

Lol, that can be a problem too. I see stories that seem to be ten pages of the same sex scene. Many times, though, it's really not a bad thing, hee hee

I use a disclaimer to cover my long stories.... Caution: I use Characters and Plot... so if It's just Sex you want... I may not be your cup of Tea....

Colleen is right.. Just bale off with both feet first... You'll never write it unless you get it down on paper....

Some storied i have trouble getting my people into bed and in others I can't get them out.... Duh.... that's what makes it fun...

Welcome to the mad world of erotica..... everything fits sooner or later....

Lol, I hope so ^_^ I'm one of those people who thinks character development and plot are key to a good story, but I have to also keep in mind what most people are here for, heh

I wouldnt worry too much about what your audience wants. Just take Colly's advice and write. If it comes out crap you can always fix it and ususally once you get started the flow will come.

Welcome to the AH

So as my topic title says, I just have to bite the bullet and do it. Well, it's time to whip out the file and probably stare at it again ^_^

As Shanglan said the other day-

You don't have to put sex in your stories.

Scared the hell out of me. :)

Just write it, you can always take it out/edit afterwards. Write what turns you on, write what you know.

Right! I must write...I wish I could just vacume the thoughts out of my head and let them splat onto the screen. Well...maybe not splat...

I quite often get stuck there too.
I find it helps to write either sentences or paras, maybe unrelated, of the first things to come into my head. It gets you started and you can edit them together or dispose of them as you wish. What is important is writing anything down. So push off and start writing. :D

There was a program a few decades ago about Bowie and how he wrote his lyrics. He wrote out phrases on scraps of paper and moved them around untill he had a song. Worked for him.

Ooo free association writing. For some reason I am reminded of the movie "I Capture the Castle." Bill Nighy has had writer's block for more than ten years. His daughter finally locks him in a tower and won't let him out till he writes something. Quite humorus...

I like to use sex as part of the character development...
That way, you can start with a sex scene, that gets your reader's attention and tells them something about the characters. Then you add some non-sexual scenes, and build up to the big one :)

Lol, I'm actually teasing a little at the start of my story. It opens with a fight scene, but from the way I wrote it, it almost seems like a sex scene at first.

Oh, I work very hard trying to punctuate all my sex scenes with interesting plot, dialogue and emotion.

Sometimes I even succeed.

Welcome to the AH, weeping.

My only advice is to treat it like a real sex act. Relax. Have fun.

Usually works for me.

That's the way to go!
That would get my attention, for sure....
