Bitching about Boston

The deer have returned. Animal Control is busy removing invading varmints.
The female turkeys left to raise chicks.
Where are the coyotes ?

Will the foxes ever return ?

Does Governor Charlie Baker have ambitions to seek higher office ?

All of the decisions that he is making now, will defend his position in a race with other Republucans.

He has staved off siding with LGBT groups, and wiil not sign.
He is balancing the budget by taking funds away from children.
There are less services, resources, and assistance available for the poor and unfortunate.

"Boston’s special education budget cuts worry parents"

"...some parents of children with autism fear the move could erode gains in learning and independence for students who have made great strides through high levels of support."

Back to the Republican way of doing business.
Tax breaks, incentives and allowances made for corporations, to lure more corporations to Massachusetts.

I will be in Boston all next week.

I hope the runners have found their way home by that time.

Ah, I miss my Boston. Tomorrow is Marathon Monday? Always (well, almost) a fun day!

They are calling it One Boston Day now. Not sure who they are, but they are making it stick. I am headed to see the reenactment at the Battle Green.

Buy you a drink at Bukowski's

I previously lived at the starting line. Those runners will be long gone. Especially the Kenyans!

Good gracious! What a time to try to make reservations!
It is madness at this time of year, for anyone connected with hospitality for the runners, and everyone associated with the race.

I see. I moved before the Boston bombings, so I am guessing the name change. Have fun, be safe!

I always experienced the "morning of" madness. At least I never had to go to work (even though for some, it is a holiday) my street was closed by 6:00am.

Less drunken spectators, these days. Or, they are less obviously it.

Spellcheck Gremlins strike, again. "...less obvious about it."
(Is what I had meant.)

*sigh*

Hair of the dog that had bitten them, the night before...

(Some people are much more subtle about it. You would be surprised to know who is hammered. They tip over in a spectacular manner, and an ambulance is called.)

The Codfather has spoken ?
We lost the original owner, Anthony, in 2005

Seaport landmark Anthony’s Pier 4 restaurant, is truly dead.
They killed it with fire on Sunday night.
2 alarm fire. Smoking rubble.
They had started tearing the old place apart this month.

100 Northern Avenue
Fan Pier Boston – Seaport District Boston

"The fire was on the water side of the partially demolished building. Marine Unit 1 was used to help fight the fire from the water."

"Boston firefighters are trying to figure out what sparked a multi-alarm fire at the demolition site of Anthony’s Pier 4 restaurant."

"The fire broke out around 1:30 Monday morning."

Opened in 1963.

All ready for construction.

Now, there will be another condo tower, to add to all the other new seaport attractions.

I hope that there is a plaque for Anthony on the lawn.
It had its place in history.
Many famous people came to dine.
Many infamous people, too.
Good enough for Julia Child, at some point.

Was there as a child, when it was fairly new.
Went, again, after the renovation.
Had not changed very much.
Not top of the line, but it was OK.
A notch higher up from Hilltop Steakhouse.

The GOP in in disarray, and nothing operates the way it has, in the past.
I have no idea what tactic the GOP is using this year.
They put forward Sarah Palin and John McCain.
It is always win-win win, for the GOP.
If elected, they have what they want. Easily manipulated crazies.
If not elected, they have something they need. Outsiders to goad the insiders.

This year, it is dog eat dog, inside the GOP tent.

George W. Bush might have chewed his way through everyone, to get the top spot. But everyone was on board after the triage was done, and the bodies were carted away.

If the Republicans own everything, why is Boston's Mayor Marty Walsh getting his rear end bitten ?

https://www.boston.com/news/local-news/2016/04/24/mayor-marty-walshs-federal-investigation

Mayor Marty Walsh’s past as labor leader reportedly draws him into federal investigation

When I was head of the Building Trades, my role was to advocate for more jobs for working men and women in the Greater Boston region,” Walsh said to the Globe in a statement. “Since becoming mayor of Boston, I have changed the development process to be more open and inclusive. Bottom line, no one gets any special treatment under my administration — developers, contractors, or unions.”

gsgs comment-

Dancing on a razor's edge (why did my spell check decide it needed a mayor, not a razor ?) when you are a Republican in Massachusetts.

All of the new Conservatives are hacking through the Unions, and Boston is pro Union.

All of Gov. Charlie Baker's pals in other states are following the Conservative party line. Massachusetts does not take kindly to the notion that we could become the next
state stripped of anything that benefits the elderly, the poor, the young, or women.

All that cash that decided the election, must be paid off, in out of state favors.
Alliances are needed, when a city is trying to attract investors, to facilitate gentrification.

Mulling over what happened to Martha Coakley.
Day dreaming about what might have been...

Boston politics are complicated, but the Conservative machine pushed matters further to the Right.

Conservative cash really bulldozed her.

The young people of Boston tried to make their voices heard.
Let us hope that Boston City Hall is listening.

Taking money away from education is not the way to go.
Tuesday , May 17, 2016 Students left their classes to participate in a protest.

This winter, our new Mayor cut the budgets for schools.

Children should not have to pay for Boston's credit rating.

The young people were well behaved and orderly.

I hope that the Boston City Council stands up for the children and young people.

It is sad when the young people are forced to defend the children against adults.

I hope that what was said at the hearing has an impact.

25 years have past, Since Hurricaine Bob, and the No Name Storm.
I just watched a young man leaping upwards, to meet the wind, while standing on a mound where the lighthouse stands. I cannot believe the foolish things we did to entertain ourselves. One stiff gust, and we would have been pushed over the edge and onto the rocks below.

Out of town, Western MA are having a hot time. 98F in May. Another MA town hit 97F

36.6C is too hot for Memorial Day weekend. It is usually cold, windy and 18.3C

The sun is setting, and the little towns are cooling off at 90F

It has been near 80F, for me. Days ago, I wore my winter pajamas and was wrapped in blankets and sipping hot tea. Was 60F

Once, again, the coyotes are howling up a storm during the day.
They must have followed the deer.

It hit 90F today. *perspires*
Early warning to get that summer wardrobe together.

Being New England, it will change without notice.
Between Uber and gypsy cabs, no one bothers to keep track.
