Bitching about Boston

Mayor Marty Walsh is on TV clips, voicing his support for Hillary.
He is going door to door, stumping for her ?

His speech-

He cares.

Does Gov. Charlie Baker care ?

Not much to endorse in the Republican pile.

What a beautiful, warm Spring day, in Boston.
The breeze was so fresh and mild.

It is still January ?

That might explain the melting snow.

Watch out from icy patches.
That will not be Spring rain, tonight.

Our lovely Boston weather will not feel like Spring, tomorrow.
The school closings are already scrolling.

Snow Day!

Who is on the dartboard ? Who will get smashed with six feet of snow ?

Messy morning commute...

Good gracious! I was guessing the hysteria from last night concerned a large volume of snow.

That was not the issue.

Tell me why my internet connection works just fine when I have nine feet of snow.
Today, we have two inches of wet cement like snow.
Snow is clumping on everything.
The tree branches are sagging under the weight.
The powerlines are sagging.

My internet connection is slow as a snail.

I guess it depends on your location. Just chatted with my Mum. She has 10 inches and it is still falling.
A friend of mine in western MA had 9 inches about 4 hours ago and it was still snowing.

The snow is still falling. Tender young branches are still green inside. It has been a confusing season. White, as far as the eye can see. Everything is coated in white.

It will be treacherous driving. The slush under the snow will freeze.

( The snow day broke the internet, I suppose. I am back, for now.)

I am a bit jealous. We have sun and blue skies in Montreal. Ugly brown grass and old snow. We had one storm before Christmas. I would like to get one big blizzard this year. Then we can go Spring.

Snow causes the colors to be perceived differently. The sky turned yellow, because of the sun.
The snow is mauve, and the sky is pink.
There were many nights with pink skies.
Too much light pollution.
I had forgotten.

A messy commute...
A snowy Monday

National Weather Service has issued a blizzard warning which is in effect from 4 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday for Plymouth County, Cape Cod and the islands.

Heavy wet snow and strong winds may result in downed tree limbs and possible power outages.Snow accumulations according to the National Weather Service could be up to 18 inches in parts of Plymouth County and upper Cape Cod.

A winter storm warning has been issued for the Greater Boston Area, North Shore, westward to Worcester and south into Northeast Connecticut.

The warning is in effect from 4 a.m. Monday to 7 a.m. Tuesday.
A winter storm warning is issued when an average of 6 or more inches of snow is expected to fall in a 12 hour period.

(Some will get hit with a foot of snow.)

Cape Cod is being targeted. High winds, a blizzard, and flooding.
White out conditions.

At this time, last year, Gov. Baker declared a state of emergency.

Cold, cold, cold.

A stiff breeze made below zero temperatures a torment.

Boston hit - 9F

The Charles River froze over.
My Ogre and I skated on the Charles a very long time, ago.
The ice was thick, but there was open water.
The police kicked us off the ice.
My Ogre got too close to the open water.
I have no idea why he did that...

It is a nice, cozy 1F in Boston right now.

A town in New Hampshire hit -24 F. Brrrr!

A colder night in New Hampshire.

Concord dropped to 21-below, breaking a 1894 record of 17-below, and Portsmouth dipped to 10-below, tying a 1961 record.

Boston shattered the record for the coldest Valentine’s Day recorded, dropping to -9 at 7:31 a.m., with a windchill of -36, according to the National Weather Service in Taunton.

Temperatures were below zero across the state, with windchills in some areas of -40 or more.

It will be a toasty, comfortable, 0F, tonight.

Who is the target on the dartboard, for this ?

Impacts...cold Road surfaces will quickly become slippery this evening as snow and then a period of sleet and freezing rain overspread the region. Temperatures will rise above freezing toward daybreak. Even though temperatures will warm above freezing...ground temperatures will be below freezing thereby contributing to an hour or two more of icy conditions. Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Winter Weather Advisory is issued when snow and/or ice is forecast to develop in the affected areas...but accumulations are expected to be light. Any snow or ice would result in slippery conditions on untreated roadways and sidewalks. When temperatures are below freezing...motorists need to be especially careful on bridges and overpasses where slippery spots can easily develop.

Tuesday night will melt and thaw everything. Slush!

Why are there so few Timber Rattlesnakes left, in Massachusetts ?

A plan by the state to establish a colony of venomous timber rattlesnakes on an off-limits island (Mount Zion Island) Massachusetts' largest body of water (Quabbin Reservoir) has some rattled by visions of dangerous serpents slithering through the surrounding woods, attacking hikers, fishermen and hunters.

A handful of snakes will be raised at Roger Williams Park Zoo in Providence, Rhode Island, and placed on the island in a couple more years when they are mature enough to survive in the wild.

I am guessing that winter bike enthusiasts might have a bone to pick, with this definition-

"An ice bike is a regular 26-inch coaster bike atop a metal frame outfitted with blades. The design removes a rider's need to balance while pedaling around the rink."

Ice Bikes of Buffalo, NY

"Each bike's frame is stationed atop blades and the front tire, replaced with a movable blade at the base, allows the biker to steer. A studded rear tire grips the ice, allowing the rider to move forward.

I heard a story about this. It sounds like an awesome idea to me.

People can be such wusses about snakes.

What has happened, that Alberta Clipper, Montreal Express, and other weather systems with Canadian names, do not get mentioned in Boston weather reports ?

Now, the weather women, and weather men just point to a massive mega system, and say that all the cold air is coming from Canada. (They have said Siberia, before.)

The parents of DJ Henry - an Easton native and college football player at Pace University - have reached a settlement with the New York police department that fatally shot their son in 2010.
Danroy and Angella Henry accepted an offer from the town of Pleasantville and Officer Aaron Hess in the amount of $6 million. The settlement stems from a civil suit that they had filed after their son's death.
DJ Henry, 20, a student and football player at Pace University and a 2007 graduate of Oliver Ames High School in Easton, was shot through the windshield of his car on Oct. 18, 2010, as he drove away from a disturbance outside a bar in Thornwood, N.Y., following the homecoming football game.
“The Henrys have been clear from the beginning that no monetary settlement could ever replace the deep loss of their son DJ,” the family’s attorney, Michael Sussman, said in a statement.
Sussman said the family’s litigation continues against the town of Mount Pleasant and officers who “failed to respond to grievous gunshot wounds” inflicted by the officer.

Six years of lies, cover ups, corruption, and nasty town politics.

Graupel.

Graupfel ?

Snow pellets. Snowballs made by mice ?

National Weather Service said
Small pellets of ice created when super cooled water droplets coat or rime a snow flake.

Sleet is clear. Graupel pellets are cloudy or white.

"The most critical necessity for the formation of graupel is extremely cold air at the cloud level."

This creates super cooled water (liquid water that exists below the freezing point)
which adheres to the snow flake.

"Precipitation forms as snow, then it is rimed in layers by super cooled liquid from updrafts into showers."

The Rat in Kenmore Square

Dropkick Murphys’s Ken Casey remembers the Boston club that gave the band its start 20 years ago

“The old Rathskeller was absolutely 100% our home, the place that gave us our break,” Casey said. “We would play all-ages matinee shows in the daytime and they would just give us the run of the place. They’d let us book shows and bring in bands that we were friends with from other cities.

Dropkick Murphys would play all ages matinee shows at the Rat and bring in six or seven bands all from other cities. In turn, those bands would hook up the Dropkicks in their hometowns when it came time to book U.S. tours.

Snow Day, for Monday!

MARCH 20, 2016

The Boston Public Schools will be closed Monday due to an impending storm expected to bring nearly a half foot of snow overnight, affecting the morning commute, according to a statement from officials.

Greater Boston is expecting 4 to 7 inches of snow beginning Sunday night and continuing into Monday morning, according to the National Weather Service.

The roads will be messy on Monday.

Parking bans and snow emergencies went into effect for Milton and Salem ahead of the storm, according to CBS Boston.

Timing was on my side. The snow was not heavy and wet.
The clean paths are bare and dry.
The snow is melting, slowly.
My maple knows what time of year it should be.
Then, again, it is not a New England maple tree.
Red flowers, frosted with snow.

*watching a TV episode about a computer taxed with the task of caring for the well being of the human beings under its care.*

It decides that we should not have what we wish for.
It is not good for us as a species.

It reminds me of Battlestar Galactica.
The show stated that we wanted slaves, that looked like us.

In the end, there was no difference between the electronic slaves we created, and human beings.

Created in our image.

Here, on Earth, our societies form, grow, and self destruct.

On Battlestar Galactica, it was hinted at, that their societies formed and went into self destruct mode, many times.

In the last episodes of Battlestar Galactica, they chose to destroy the the technology that allowed them to cross space and time to reach an untouched Earth like planet.

They chose to destroy the technology that would allow them to recreate the society that had failed.

There were very few people left. They chose to live the way the Native Inhabitants of the new planet, were living.

Close to the soil, the natural air, the waters of the planet.
There was no need for technology.
Food, water, and shelter would be provided by nature.

There was no overloaded system to compensate for.
But, evolution would come.
The toaster human and original human and Native Inhabitants would share genes.
The cycle would start, again.

We are on this threshold, of joining robotic technology and human lives.
It is within possibility.

Just in time for tourist season.

Almost two years to the day of closure, MBTA’s Government Center station is reopening Monday

The transit station shut down for renovations on March 22, 2014.

Ribbon cutting by Gov.Baker, today.

MBTA estimated that means the station will open for riders around 12:30 p.m.

Will it leak ?
