Rockefeller Imposter pleads not guilty to murder
July 8, 2011

LOS ANGELES, July 8 (Reuters) - A German-born man who once posed as a member of the wealthy Rockefeller clan pleaded not
guilty on Friday to charges that he murdered a neighbor in1985, when authorities said he was using a different name.

Christian Karl Gerhartsreiter entered his plea at a court in the Los Angeles suburb of Alhambra.

The victim, John Sohus, went missing in 1985 but his body was not discovered until 1994, when a building crew found it
buried in the backyard of what had been his home in the Los
Angeles suburb of San Marino.

He was conclusively identified only recently with the help of new technology, sheriff's officials said earlier this year.

Sohus went missing along with his wife, Linda. Her body was never discovered, and as a result Gerhartsreiter has not been
charged in her death. Investigators have said, however, that they believe she is dead.

DUBLIN -- The Irish government is publishing a new report Wednesday into the Catholic Church's concealment of child abuse by priests,
a long-running scandal that has ravaged the church's once-exalted position in Ireland.

The report being unveiled by Justice Minister Alan Shatter details how church leaders in the rural County Cork diocese of Cloyne
suppressed evidence of complaints against 19 priests from 1996 to 2009

This will be the fourth government-ordered report into Catholic abuse cover-ups in a country that has suffered waves of public uproar against the church since 1994.

Catholic leaders responded to the third report by introducing child-protection guidelines that went into force in January 1996.
These included instructions for bishops to tell police or other civil authorities about all suspected cases.

Boston Cardinal Sean P. O’Malley, visiting Dublin -
"Just as the Irish people persevered and preserved the faith when it was endangered, and carried it to many other countries, the commitment to sustain the faith provides the opportunity for the hard lessons of the crisis to benefit the Church, in our quest to do penance for the sins of the past and to do everything possible to protect children in the present and in the future."

Cloyne Report

Report by Commission of Investigation into Catholic Diocese of Cloyne

Irish Prime Minister Enda Kenny said the historic relationship between church and state in Ireland could not be the same again.

He said the report exposed the elitism, dysfunction, disconnection, and narcissism that dominated the Vatican.

Vatican official rejects criticism in wake of Irish judicial report

Father Lombardi said that, as the Irish bishops stated at the time, their document was "far from being the last word on how to address the issues." In that context, he said, the Vatican's critical observations were legitimate and reflected concern that Irish policies and sanctions against abusers would be in vain if they were ultimately found to be in contradiction with church law.

Middlesex Superior Court Judge Sandra Hamlin sentenced Geoghan to 9 to 10 years in a maximum-security prison.

a fellow inmate who told investigators he had plotted the killing for at least a month.

Baseball-Sized Hail Damages Cars in Queens and Long Island

A violent summer storm slammed hailstones the size of baseballs down onto eastern Queens and western Nassau County Monday afternoon,
shattering windshields in New Hyde Park, Long Island, and damaging cars in Douglaston, Queens, the National Weather Service said.

June 25, 2010

"We would classify it as a micro-burst, not a tornado," said NWS meteorologist Ross Dickman. "The winds were straight line winds, they weren't rotating.
Douglaston and Whitestone sections of Queens got socked. Hardest hit in Nassau were Great Neck and East Hills.

September 17, 2010

Two tornadoes — one that reached up to 80 miles an hour in Park Slope, and a second near Flushing that reached 100 miles an hour — as well as a macro-burst in Middle Village and Forest Hills, Queens, that generated winds up to 125 miles an hour.

Micro-burst or macro burst? Do you want hail with that?
