Bitching about Boston

Taking a trip, out to Western MA ?

"Normally, this time of year, warm fronts breeze through here by mid morning but this spring has been different. You can thank
that cold month of March we had as its kept the ocean quite cold this spring and that has made it difficult to get warm fronts
to the coast. I think it's the same today where interior locations will warm into the low 70s with increasing humidity while
closer to the coast the temps will struggle to make it out of the 50s.

That warmer air will come at a price though. The warm (and humid) air will lead to scattered showers/t-storms by late
afternoon from Orange through Worcester and down to Battledore.

Downpours, lightning, small hail are the greatest concerns but because a warm front will be near these thunderstorms,
some of the storms may try to rotate.

http://www1.whdh.com/weather/blog/page/1//

"There is the risk of t-storms after 3pm from Orange to Attleboro. South wind 5-10mph"

"Rotation being seen at Shirkshire."

Saturday Temperatures will range from a high of 49 to a low of 36 degrees with cloudy skies. Winds will range between

So much, for driving up to the vacation cabin/chalet. Vermont got smacked with floods again.

"The basement has about 13 inches of water," said Bob Genter of Underhill.

And preparing for the aftermath of the floods that swept through Underhill Thursday night was almost impossible,
as residents like Genter could only think about getting to safety.

"My first thought should've been to get the vehicles out. I didn't realize that until this morning," Genter said.

But for some residents along Route 15, the damage is so bad, leaving home means never returning.

"So, now it's just a matter of getting what we can and moving on," said Andrew Fletcher of Underhill.
"I would be happy not to never look at this place ever again."

For many others, getting to their homes has been a challenge. The rain continues to fall, causing many roads to remain closed.

DERBY LINE, Vt. -

A hole in the road closed one of the routes into Canada Friday.

State Police say Route 5 in Derby Line is closed near Caswell Avenue because of a hole in the pavement just a couple of feet over
the line in Canada. They say the hole is small on the surface but a large area has eroded below.

Drivers should enter Canada at the Interstate 91 or Beebe Plain crossings instead. Crews are not expected
to fix the road until Monday.

Weather prompts Essex to postpone parade

Things should brighten up by Monday, but before then, Kistner said a low pressure system similar to a late spring nor'easter
is expected to develop just south of Cape Cod and move into the Gulf of Maine this weekend.

The storm will bring unseasonably cool air and more rain to much of the state through the weekend. However, in far
northern areas, especially in Coos County, the air will be cold enough for some snow overnight Saturday into Sunday.

While a coating of the white stuff would be the norm, the higher mountain peaks could see several inches of snow.

Meanwhile, Andover MA loses power in some sections. What downed the power lines ?

Take your pick- Snow or frost.

Animal enthusiasts now have the chance to interact with Australian budgies, hear the grainy whine of a tawny frogmouth,
and watch koalas snacking on eucalyptus leaves at Stone Zoo ’s Aussie Adventure exhibit, which opened last Saturday
in Stoneham.

The zoo is hosting these unique species until Sept. 2 to allow visitors to get an up-close look at animals
they might not otherwise encounter.

In the case of the budgies, zoo-goers will get to do more than just watch.

Guests will be able to roam the indoor exhibit among these colorful parakeets and feed them with seed sticks
that will be available for purchase.

Former Massachusetts Gov. Argeo Paul Cellucci (sel-LOO'-chee) has died of
complications from ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease. He was 65.

Cellucci was elected lieutenant governor in 1990 and became acting governor in 1997
when his predecessor, William Weld, resigned to pursue an ambassadorship.

Cellucci was U.S. ambassador to Canada under former president George W. Bush.

A certain Boston TV station, that supports Republicans, announced he would be U.S. Ambassador to Ireland.
I thought that was a very strange event, at the time.
(No. It was not FOX TV that announced the Ireland appointment.)

"Cellucci wore his Italian-American roots proudly, though few realized that his mother was of Irish descent."
(I did not know that!)

Jane Swift became acting governor after Mr. Cellucci left for Canada.

So the ambassador was killed by a terrorist named Lou Gehrig? Start the congressional inquiry.

Did this happen because Whitey Bulger is getting his jollies and snickering in court ?

Hot and sunny, all day long. Do not like the weather ? Wait a minute. Wind gusted and the temp suddenly dropped 20 degrees.

The house shook from the thunder. Lightning strikes were thick, fast and plentiful. Some hail. Plenty of heavy rain.

Just in time for the commuter rush. Must have made the flight into Logan, an exciting event.

Tip of the hat, to the lawmen of Boston. That creep, Christian Karl Gerhartsreiter
is stuck in California, thanks to them.

Mr. Fake Clark Rockefeller dismissed his team of Boston attorneys Thursday and will represent himself before his sentencing.

Gerhartsreiter's sentencing hearing, initially set for next week, was rescheduled for August. He faces 27 years to life in prison.

Gerhartsreiter told the judge he will file a motion for a new trial. New information about his murder victim's wife ?

Today, Whitey Bulger has the nerve to mention the words "good name, as in My Good Name.
If his words had an aroma to them, they would have an aroma akin to a pile of rotting corpses,
in a Garbage Only landfill, that was next to sewerage storage.

Jury shown FBI informant file on Bulger
June 24, 2013

James Marra, a special agent with the Justice Department’s Office of the
Inspector General, read excerpts from Whitey Bulger’s 700-page FBI file.

FBI Supervisor, John Morris is expected to be the next witness after Marra is cross-examined by Bulger’s attorneys Tuesday.

Whitey Bulger hates John Morris.

http://www.bostonglobe.com/metro/20...ictive-core/qptGLTsGkKCMgTer0SLgvL/story.html

I believe Whitey Bulger is a deeply cynical and vicious criminal who made millions by killing and
intimidating people while he was protected by a deeply corrupted FBI.

I believe he made millions from the drug trade, extorting money from drug dealers even as he
and his apologists propagated the nonsense that he never was involved in drugs.

I believe that John Connolly, Whitey’s FBI handler, was made to answer for sins committed by an entire squad, an entire office,
an entire agency, that the Justice Department has been engaged in damage limitation from the get go.

I believe that as much of a disgrace as it is that criminals have been given sweetheart deals in exchange for
their testimony against Whitey, it’s a bigger disgrace that John Morris, Connolly’s equally corrupt FBI supervisor,
was allowed to trade his testimony for a stay-out-of-jail card. Morris should have gone to prison, and many other
FBI agents should have been indicted.

I believe that Whitey Bulger insisted on the loyalty of others but was loyal to no one but himself. He dragged his brother
Jack into a scheme to get phony IDs, costing Jack his pension, not to mention a felony conviction.

I believe that this trial, for Whitey, is not about getting acquitted, it’s about getting even, and that’s why I’m on his witness list.

-Kevin Cullen, writer for the Boston Globe

“The chronicling of what Whitey calls The Big Show will be confined to the written word, though Whitey wants to
control who gets to write those words, which is why my colleague Shelley Murphy and I find ourselves on Whitey’s
witness list and possible sequestration.”
- Kevin Cullen.

South Boston
"Southie"
June 10, 2013

Stephen Rakes owned Stippo's Sub and Deli. Stippo was Stephen's nickname. The popular corner store sold coffee, doughnuts,
and groceries. It was open from dawn to midnight. Stephen worked with his brother, sister, mother, and father all working shifts.
Julie Miskel began working at the store in 1977. Julie and Stephen were married in 1978. They both worked hard, and saved money.
They had plans, that would have worked out. Their children would have lives that they dreamed of, when they lived in "the projects."

Good luck and hard work had put them in a position, where their humble dreams would come true. But, bad luck had found the family.
Whitey Bulger had been chased out of the Lancaster Street Garage, was harassed by state troopers, and hounded as a murder suspect.

Construction and remodeling were almost over. The happy couple would open the new store. Whitey Bulger and Stephen Flemmi were watching.

Late at night, the two gangsters were coming around to inspect all the remodeling that was going on. Before the happy couple could complete
a week's worth of business, they were finished off. They wouldn't even be around long enough to hold the raffle they had advertised.

A Horrible Night for the Happy Couple -

Julie drove over to the store from their house. She talked on the phone to her husband, who was at home.
Another phone call- from a stranger with a deep threatening voice
"Julie? You should get out. The store is going to be bombed."Julie called her husband. Stephen, for his part, tried to sound comforting.
Stephen's voice had sounded tense. Stephen was tense because three men pushed their way into the happy couple's home-
Whitey Bulger, Stephen Flemmi and Kevin Weeks.

Whitey Bulger's lie-
"You got a problem. The competition-some of the other liquor store owners, wanted him dead. Instead of killing you, we'll buy the store."
Stephen Rakes told Whitey Bulger that the store was not for sale.
The three criminals left. Stephen called Julie.
The three criminals came back. One of Stephen Rake's little daughters wandered into the kitchen to see what was going on.
Flemmi pulled a handgun from his waistband, put it on the table, and lifted the girl onto his lap. "Isn't she cute," Flemmi said.
The gangster tousled her blond hair. The gun's hard metal caught the child's attention, and the child reached for the gun.
Flemmi let her touch it, and the child even put part of the gun in her mouth. "It would be a sin for her not to see you."

Bulger and his knife-
"We either kill you or we buy the store."Stephen Rakes sat still and listened.

"It's ours," said Flemmi.

Stephen called Julie- and this time he was beyond tense. His voice sounded strange and faraway, and then Julie realized that
her husband was crying. Stephen explained the sudden turn of events. Stephen was whimpering, muttering things beyond belief,
explaining what would happen next, what she had to do.

Julie Rakes looked up and saw an oversized man - well over 6 feet and heavily built - walk into the Liquor Mart. It was Jamie Flannery,
someone she'd known in high school. They'd been friends. Flannery was also a regular at Triple O's. He had a drinking problem and
sometimes worked as a bouncer at the bar. Julie had seen him at the bar with Whitey Bulger. Things suddenly were making terrible sense.

She never went back to their liquor store again. In the car, Julie was shaken, but Flannery said little, just drove, as he made his way
down Fourth Street and began to slow down. Julie saw that up ahead, in the dark, three strangers were standing outside her door.

The happy couple didn't know Bulger, they thought they knew this reputation. "Robin Hood of Southie."
But now, firsthand, the couple knew it was not true - Bulger had ripped the Liquor Mart away from them.

Whitey Bulger summoned Stephen Rakes to the lost store several times during the weeks that followed, and Rakes signed
documents so that the takeover of their store appeared on the up-and-up. Rakes asked about the $25,000 owed. Bulger
began screaming at him, and the money was never mentioned again.

The conveyance was made out to Kevin Weeks alone, although Weeks later filed documents listing an equal ownership with
Bulger and with Flemmi's mother, Mary. Stevie Flemmi later said the Liquor Mart was proof that he and Bulger were in a legitimate
business - an absurd claim that was almost humorous if not for the dark extortion behind the takeover.

The sign out front was soon changed from Stippo's to the South Boston Liquor Mart. Then, a large, green shamrock was painted
on the concrete exterior. Eventually, on a referral from John Connolly, the FBI in Boston began buying liquor for its Christmas
party from Bulger's Liquor Mart.

Whitey Bulger never left the formerly happy couple alone. Julie and Stephen Rakes divorced in 1991.

2013

Triple O's, a hole-in-the-wall bar where Whitey Bulger allegedly collected unpaid loans,
is now a sushi bar. Across the street is a Starbucks.

Stippo's Liquor Mart became Bulger's new office in 1984. Since then, the liquor store has changed hands several times.
It's now called Kippy's Wine & Spirits.

Whitey Bulegr knew how to play the game. Whitey Bulger knew that reality and image are two different things.

Some people, to this very day, believe that Whitey Bulger is a gentleman.

Mmmm. yeah- Why Whitey Bulger does not want Kevin Cullen and Shelley Murphy to cover his trial-

Whitey Bulger: America's Most Wanted Gangster and the Manhunt That Brought Him to Justice,
Boston Globe reporters Kevin Cullen and Shelley Murphy trace the trajectory of Bulger's career
in crime and his relationship with the FBI.

Kevin Cullen, who also grew up in South Boston and knew the FBI agent who was Bulger's handler
from childhood, was the first to raise questions about Bulger's relationship with the FBI.

There were many people, who let this horror go, on and on.
This man has something pithy to say on that subject-

'Look, not only does the government not have respect for life in general, they don't have respect for the lives of people who work
for them. I mean, look at Luis, look at me. It just goes to show you even further that the big-G government will do whatever they
have to do to get their good press, do their drug war and try to come out covering their asses."
