The politics have to play their way out. If she won't appear on Monday, vote on Tuesday and be done with it.

Her allegations are starting to exhibit more holes than an over-aged wheel of Swiss cheese. But the more radical Dem's are angling to delay as long as possible. After the elections would be the target and then the next tactic would be to demand a delay until the new senators are sworn in (on the assumption, or dream, that they take the Senate).

Feinstein's 11th hour tactic has alienated many of the senators of her own party. Perhaps one of the reasons she's starting to back peddle on the veracity of the claimant. But why did she go about it the way she did to begin with? Could it have anything to do with the fact that she lost the endorsement of her own party in the primaries and the fact that she'll be facing a fellow democrat (De Leon) in the general election? The democrat that DID get the parties endorsement! So she uses this tactic to demonstrate how far to the left she can swerve. That would be my guess anyway. She wants to hold on to power at any cost.

And she's back peddling because she knows that this is not going to hold up at all in a hearing.

If this woman was even half as credible as Anita Hill they would have been delighted to trot her out early on in this process. They didn't because not only would have been obvious that this was just standard DNC Playbook material it would have been an also run version.
