I'm really getting sick of having to remember to take my pill everyday so i'm thinking about switching to the ring. Is anyone on it or know anything about it other then you can read on the pph site. thanks

I've been considering switching as well, but I'm not sure about the ring...I'm thinking more of the patch...my sister uses it, and it really does stay on for a whole week. I'd be afraid of the ring popping out like it did when I tried Instead. I dont see how the ring would be better unless I developed a rash or something from the patch.

A couple of threads on the Nuvaring:

The ring provides a much lower dose of hormones than the pill or patch, and a lot of women have fewer side effects. From what I've heard, once you learn to position it correctly, it stays in without a problem. If I go back on hormonal bc, it'll likely be the first thing I try. It's not the most objective source of info, but a lot of your questions may be answered (and you can compare all hormonal methods and get a free trial certificate so it doesn't cost you anything to see how it works) on the Nuvaring website.

BC ring

I've been on it and liked it, i couldn't stay on it though because i needed something stronger...it's a little tricky putting it in, but once it's in it's fine, can't feel it. Be warned though that if u use tampons, when u put the new one in and you're still on your period for a couple of days, it's likely to come out with the tampon and u won't know it, so check the toilet or use pads. Oh yeah, u can't feel it during sex and neither can your partner, unless ur using fingers! ;) :nana:

I asked on another thread, but didn't get any responses...so I'll try again here. Does anyone know if the ring works for all weights? I think I remember reading somewhere that it only worked for people of "normal" weight, and that it was less effective, or not effective at all, for overweight women. I've checked the website, and done a few google searches, but couldn't find information about it anywhere - has anyone else heard anything like this?

I'm curious about that too, but I think it might work for most women because it's more localized. I don't put a lot of stock in the weight limits on low dose pills or the patch for me personally anyway because the lowest level pills have always worked for me (I can tell when I'm ovulating or not) and we used condoms as an extra precaution.

I know that the patch has a weight limit of 175 or 185 and if ur even close most docs won't let you use it.

Hmm, I wonder if the ring is different because of where you absorb the hormones. I'll keep on digging...thanks Erika & Fr34k.

I haven't heard much about the ring--not even sure if it's offered in Canada.

I had the patch, but the hormone level wasn't high enough. And it fell off once, and it took a month to get a replacement (by then I'd been off it for two weeks....blah).

My doctor is starting me on Yasmin bcps. I have issues with hormones...my estrogen is very low. It sucks.

Im using ring and I have liked it so far. Way more easier than pills - at least I havent had any problems putting it there or thought it to be repulsive or anything (I tend to have my fingers there every now and then anyways).

Pills had impact on my sex drive and mood but I havent noticed same with ring. Also periods are much easier now. Super regular, very little bleeding and so on - easy every way. And to top of that my doctor told I could well use two rings on row so now I'm having periods once per two months.

So I have pretty much only positive things to say about it. I know some people have had either same side effects as with pills or infections (can it be dirty hands?) with ring.

First, I'm pretty certain there isn't a weight limit for the ring. I'm too heavy to use the patch but my doctor prescribed the ring for me no problem.

However, I only used it one month because it totally didn't fit me right. It kept slipping out. My partner felt it during sex. And then it popped out once after sex and I didn't know- way to freak me out!!!! I even went in to my gynecologist for her to try and fit it in right, but no luck. Maybe I just have a weird shaped vagina??

Good luck!

Weird... Mine is more like stuck there - I mean I really have to pull it out :)

It once came out during sex though and was hanging on guy's penis. It gave us a good laugh :)

But you can take it out for hour so its not required to be inside during intercourse. Helps if it feels there or if partner got phobia of getting hormones through head of the cock (I guess in theory guy could get something like 1% of daily hormone dose what ring gives).

The shot, Depo Provera, lasts so long because it's an extremely high dose of hormones. It can have severe side effects, and is generally prescribed for women who can't stick to a daily or weekly schedule with another form of birth control. Unless a woman has some kind of hormonal deficiency, it's best to use something that has the lowest possible effective dose of hormones, like the NuvaRing or a birth control pill.
