Definitely...Pence. Trump had people erecting a gallows and chanting that they were gonna hang him, and he couldn't say anything against that for over a year or more. Although McCarthy isn't the paragon of courage either, but neither is most republican politicians. They all know being on the wrong side of Trump is detrimental to their careers. So they'll all be like Ted Cruz and phonebank for the same man that called his wife ugly and insinuate that his father was an assassin of JFK.

Donald Trump incited his supporters to the extent of "Hang Mike Pence, hang Mike Pence", the January 6 protesters went into Capitol Hill aiming at stopping the certification of the 2020 presidential election results, specifically aiming at physically grabbing Mike Pence (who they viewed as a traitor) and doing him some serious harm, perhaps even a lynching. Ah, but he blew it with the Republican base by trying to appease the pro-Biden camp in the House. McCarthy had a choice between appeasing the establishment (i.e. Biden's supporters) or going stronger into the MAGA camp, and he chose the former.
