A recent survey found that men are more likely to stray if their partners are slender. The survey found an incredible 64% of men with partners under size 12 admitted to cheating, compared with 20% of those with partners above that size.

And 7 in 10 faithful men admitted they prefer a size 16 and over.

One theory is that those with skinny wives and girlfriends could be more interested in looks alone - ensuring they're on the lookout for someone even more attractive.

Perhaps the view 'posh needs more nosh' is sound advice for everyone after all.

I remain, and probably will for the rest of my life, firmly in the 10-12 size (that's size 6 in America I think?). My metabolism must be through the roof or something because I eat twice/three times as much as other people my age. However, most of that stuff is protein/carbs. I have a natural aversion to chocolate and dohnuts and cakes it seems. I feel sick if I eat too much yet binging (sp?) on something like chicken wings (a couple of weeks ago I put on 4 kg after eating something like 20+ chicken wings). I don't think my body shape will change drastically because my mother has nearly identical measurements to me (same hips and waist but she has smaller bust). And she's, what, 24 years older?

It's not exactly a secret that men prefer women with some heft to their bodies. Most men much prefer to feel curves, not bone, when they hug their SO. Fashion models and Ally McBeal, with their scarecrow figures are the butt of almost as many jokes as lawyers.

There is a Darwinian reason for men to be more attracted to buxom figures also. Such a woman is better able to bear and nurse children or, at least, so it appears.

Furthermore, unless a woman is like Marsipanne and a few others, she has to diet constantly to stay slim. People who are on diets are much less jovial and congenial than those who don't mind indulging now and then.

Personally, I think that "one theory" is pretty silly although it probably does apply to a few men.

I can't say about all larger women or all smaller women but I do believe that if a woman is constantly trying to lose weight or keep her weight down, she is going to be less likely to enjoy life in general. This would mean she would be less likely to want to fuck than a woman who is not dieting and does enjoy life. This is a very broad (no pun intended) generalization because there are many skinny women who love to fuck and many fat women who have no interest at all.

I don't think it is entirely the dieting, but rather what the reason for dieting is, although lack of food and chocolate substances = narkiness. The reason for dieting is often that the person is not comfortable with the way they are. A woman [or man] who is confident in the way they look- whether size 10 or 16 - is extremely sexy.

I've been sort of slim most of my life, and I'm small-boned, even though I'm not short. Almost every boyfriend I had, up until I got married, was always trying to feed me.

Think of the women you know who are fashionably thin. I mean thin like a magazine model. They're all neurotic, aren't they? They're either bulimic or anorexic or just obsessed with dieting. That's why men leave them.

I think I'll agree with the theory that guys who prefer skinny girls are the shallow type who is more interested in chasing Barbiedolls to show off to his friends, than to actually settle down and have a relationship with a woman.

This is a really interesting thread - and while it is not so hard to believe, I think it is hard for lots of females to internalize this. Logically we know that for the most part men will like us even if we have a little "extra", but we are still conditioned to feel like we should be thinner. Not sure why this is - but this survey is very interesting and what would be nice is if eventually a wave was started where this kind of message trickled down and was actually internalized by females, so that some could maybe start feeling better about their bodies and worrying less.

I think there is a lot to the thought that no matter what your size, if you are confident, that is sexy. If you are insecure and uptight, that is a turn-off.

Men will not only like you if you have "a little 'extra", they will vastly prefer it. I have no idea why women have the idea that men are attracted to Ally McBeal types. There are a few people in Hollywood and the fashion industry who are trumpeting the idea that emaciation equals beauty, but why should they have so much say in the matter?

I have to agree with what Og says here. Rolls of flab on either a man or a woman are not attractive, at least not to me.

Blacksnake posted a photo here and the woman in the photo is not what I would call a BBW. I would just call her a beautiful woman. I would say the same thing about Kate Winslett. Some time ago there was a lingeree ad on a thread and it included a pic of a very sexy woman with curves in the right places. The ad copy referred to "larger women" but I would not have called her a BBW either, just a beautiful, sexy woman.

There is such a thing as a BBW but, unfortunately, it has become a euphemism for fat woman. I would not be able to define where "BBW" stops and "fat" begins, just as I would not be able to define where "slender" stops and "skinny" begins but I think most people can tell by looking at a woman.

I really hated when they made all the 'jokes' about young fat Monica too. I hated everyone concerned with that portrayal from the cameramen to the writers.

I have to whole-heartedly agree with you there. Monica and Rachel both looked like toothpicks in the later episodes. They had pretty faces but even there they were to thin. I thought Phoebe was usually the best looking one of the group.

I even wrote a celebrity story about it, "I Get Friendly with Friends".
