I felt the need to rant about out of control government, overstepping their authority and intruding on individual rights.

Virgina moves to ban the pill.

Texas already passed the new law requiring women to get an unnecessary ultrasound before they have an abortion. Virgina has a similar law pending, except instead of the classic non-invasive ultrasound most people picture, this one requires the women to get an unnecessary vaginal probe ultrasound.

Arizona is purposing a bill that would ban public school teachers, who teach everything from 1st graders to community college from cursing.

congrats, virginia. legislating for the use of medicalised sexual assault to punish women for seeking abortion would be a totally classy move.

NFW would that be Constitutional.

I find it interesting that you highlight GOP-based removal of rights (I do agree that these are WRONG) but fail to mention the left's trouncing of our rights.

No comments about Obama EXPANDING the dreaded Patriot Act, despite teeth gnashing from the left when GW first passed it.

No comments about Obama making it ILLEGAL to sue if you're wrongly detained by said Patriot Act.

No mention of overzealous Dept. of Education employees following Michelle Obama's new food mandates and actually taking away a homemade meal from a student and forcing them to eat some shitty school lunch meal.

No mention of the out of control EPA racking up fines and seizing homeowners property because they're "wetlands" and it might endanger the spotted field mouse (or something equally stupid).

No mention of Obama ok'ing drones to spy on AMERICAN CITIZENS.

you don't think proposing laws enforcing the raping of women with objects deserves a thread unhijacked, joe?

I highlight these stories, because they were the top stories on my headlines this morning. I didnt really pay too much attention to who was purposing the laws, but you're right, even the no cursing in college bill is a republican bill. If you'd like to add a rant about big government, feel free, Id love to read any links you have.

The guy who introduced the bill, Bob Marshall, is a full-on lunatic. I met him a few years ago at an event and after a minute or two of him talking to me, I was sure he was pulling my leg. When I finally realized he was serious (the topic was about economic development in Northern Virginia), I felt dumber just for having been near him.

He makes Lit's most wacko right-wingers look reasonable and informed.

Teachers shouldn't curse in front of students. Exceptions for it being an actual part of the lesson.

But should that be an issue between the school and the teacher, or the state and the teacher?
Also, Ive had college professors who used profanity in lessons. They werent cursing left and right, but it did happen, and was a natural part of communication, especially when the teacher is passionate about an argument. If the school has an issue with a teacher swearing too much, then they should address it. Is it really an issue that deserves its own law?

I don't care what they do in college but from high school down it shouldn't happen. The school is the government so a law doesn't make it much different.

yes, but the proposed law actually goes much farther than just the classroom. it actually makes it illegal for teachers to curse anywhere.

Hudson said the bill is “ridiculously overbroad,” “unnecessary” and “unconstitutional.” The bill would limit teachers’ language wherever they are, whether in the classroom or the teachers’ lounge.

I think a ban on teachers cursing anywhere at anytime is sufficiently unenforcable that it's kinda pointless to cry about it. It's like here in California where for the last forty years it's been illegal to play frisbee or football on the beach at any time and when they tried to loosen it to only apply to peek summer season people bitched and moaned. Now they are about to rewrite it so you can play anytime as long as a lifeguard doesn't ask you to stop. Which was essentially what had been going on the last forty odd years. This is a case of people whining because people whine. I guess it shows the economy and life in general aren't so bad if we can muster the time to whine about the posibility of a teacher being caught in a sting where she asks her husband to fuck her.

I honestly wonder if the law was written as an easier way to fire teachers. Its a 3 strikes you're out law. So really, if you were unpopular, it would be easy to catch someone cursing and write them up until you can fire them.

Most of those thing happened way before she joined this site. How do you know what she bitched about before?

There's also the issue of the Repuiblicans marketing themselves with the big lie of "we're the small government party".

(Otoh, Obama marketed himself as the "end all the Bush shennanigans" guy. He has ended some, expanded some, and gone nowhere on others.)

I wonder what it will sound like now in the private bedroom of mr and mrs Teacher...

"Oh, yes, fornicate me! Fornicate me harder!"

"I'm gonna fornicate you gooood, honey!"

don't worry, obama has sold America out. Obama has declared war on America. 300 nuke warheads. WTF! how can anyone support the mentally fucked up obama?

Most of the silly-shit laws pols pass are designed to take attention away from their malpractice, incompetence, and crimes.

Perhaps. Though that would make them a good bit smarter than I give them credit for. My guess is like in my earlier post. There was a reason, perhaps a stupid one, but a reason to set this law and nobody wants to write a 2000 page law that specifies that a teacher can't curse except when after school, unless there is an after school activity, on weekends, unless the school team is in a hotel over the weekend for state finals, of campus, unless on a field trip etc etc. It's overly broad because someone is trusting the enforcers not to be morons. This is also why we have judges and juries. Because a judge would likely throw the case out and a jury would take about fifteen minutes to realise that Ms. Jones crying out holy shit in the grocery store after hitting the lottery was completely appropriate.
