The Biden administration has once again permitted Iran's government to establish absentee ballot stations across the US for the upcoming Iranian presidential election on June 28.

The decision, first reported by the Voice of America, has sparked outrage among critics who view it as legitimizing the Islamic Republic’s "authoritarian rule".

Alireza Mahmoudi, an official from the Iranian Foreign Ministry, earlier confirmed plans to set up 30 voting locations, including at venues such as the Iranian Interests Section at the Pakistani embassy in Washington DC and a location in New York.

The move comes despite the US State Department’s acknowledgment that Iran’s elections are "neither free nor fair", as it only allows candidates loyal to Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei to run.

"Preposterous. The concept of a free and fair election under the Islamic Republic is a fallacy," said Iranian-British activist and actress Nazanin Boniadi.

"While regime opponents are advocating for a boycott, the US inexplicably permits absentee ballots for this farce?" she added in reaction to the Biden administration's decision.

This is an odd thing to object to. Would you prefer Iranian refugees not have the possibility of a vote?

Seriously? First of all the elections are NOT free and fair. And as an exporter of terrorism it seems to me that this is a clever way for the Iranian Mullah's to get the location of the disaffected Iranians stupid enough to vote in this farce.

With all of the problems that Iran is causing in the Mid-East it is baffling to me that this administration is giving this an appearance of legitimacy.

Exactly!

Are we using taxpayer money to set up these polling stations?

Iranians in the US are free and will cast their ballots fairly, just as they have in 2017 and 2002.

If they don't want to vote, they don't have to.

They aren't giving the govt legitimacy, dipshit. They are giving legitimacy to Iranian citizens in their right to vote.

As with most things, the OP is more focused on Biden even though 45 did the same thing.

Hash browns are up!

Let us know your supervisors name, clearly you have enough free time to add another task to your job-because you are so far out of your depth here to understand why investment in refugees being able to vote is sound.

What’s your other nickname? Traitor? Sounds about right!

That is about the stupidest statement you've made. If Iranian citizens want to vote they can do so without the blessing of the US Government. Our government's involvement IS a signal of legitimacy.

Why didn't you comment on this in 2017?

WE KNOW WHY!

So your statement is that Iranian citizens have no legitimacy.

Got it. 👍

Explain again how it matters that elections aren't free or fair then?

Tell me again how emotional and triggered democrats and liberals are...

Dumbass trumpers, treasonous republicans 🙄😡
There once was a time that the United States, as the standard bearer of elected democratic government, actually promoted free and fair elections in countries that we had no reason to manipulate.

Yet another dumb ass statement on your part. I neither said nor inferred any such thing.

81% of Iranians in the US are naturalized citizens who best NOT be voting in Iranian elections. 15% are permanent residents on the path to citizenship who also should NOT be voting in Iranian elections. That leaves 4% unaccounted for and, I assume, they are perfectly capable of voting in the Iranian elections if they so choose without the help of the US government.

Begging the question, "Why is this administration so hell bent on kissing Tehran's ass?

Of course you didn't 👍

Who's choice is it to vote or not to vote?

The previous administration set up polling stations for Iranian elections as well.

OK, the article is misleading. The government isn't involved at all beyond the fact that US law must be followed. The polling stations are privately set up and privately run (private in so far as the US government is concerned).

Sobered up did you, re-read the article did you?. Funny how sobriety leads to understanding.
