This is phase three of trying to make me better, anyone taken it before? Any tips on how to avoid side effect?

Thanks Ya'll!

Thanks cK...guess I will just spend my three days off playing psychobabble and trying to mask the bad taste in my mouth

I was just on Biaxin, and I had to stop because it was making me too sick. I was nauseous the entire time i was taking it (no alcohol was involved). As BC said, it will give you an awful, metallic taste in your mouth. Drinking lots of water and having sucking candy helps a bit.

Also, if you are susceptible to yeast infections, MAKE SURE you either eat lots of yogurt that has active cultures, or take lots of acidophalus (found in capsule form at most drugstores in the vitamin area). I've found that Biaxin is worse than most other antibiotics at getting rid of the good as well as the bad bacteria.

Goodl uck and feel better.

Oh gee all the fun stuff I have to look forward too..metalic taste in my mouth and and itchy oozy coochie.... just kill me now.

Biaxin make me feel so bad, not phisically but emotionally, like wanting to cry all the time, in really bad mood... it do that to me and my kid too... the doc said it was intolerance, I will never take that antibiotic ever again.

Good luck

This is very good advice. And it helps both against infection AND the stomach/gut issues. Being a guy, obviously yeast infections aren't a worry for me, but funny intenstinal happenings are when I take antibiotics. The last time I was religious about taking acidophelus with it though, I had almost no side effects at all. Bratcat's right too; make sure there's something in your gut when you down it.

Biaxin is also known as clarithromycin....it is roughly in the same category as erythromycin. the biggest side effect of this drug is nausea and stomach upset. tkae it with food. but unfortunately this may not abate this side effect. if after a couple doses (usually taken 2 x daily) call your doc and get something else prescribed.

Biaxin is commonly written for upper respiratory infections pnemonias etc. Zithromax or cipro may be better tolerated!

hope this helps:)

Well put.

bratcat, I've never seen this prescribed to curb drinking. I could be wrong, of course.

One drug that does interact with alcohol that is the antibiotic Flagyl/metronidazole. when alcohol is ingested while taking this drug a person will become very ill with severe nausea and vomiting and stomach cramps....it is a disulfran reaction.

this same type of reaction is noted in the drug Antabuse which alcoholics may opt to take to keep them on the wagon so to speak!:)

I took it for bronchitis, too. I had no problem with it. Not everyone gets that metal taste in their mouth from it, I didn't.

You'd have the metal in your mouth taste by now if you were going to get it.

I've learned from experience- get my butt to the doctore BEFORE I'm in full blown bronchitis. And I got a pneumonia shot last October with my flu shot. Best thing I ever did- I had a great winter for not being ill last year.

Yay!! I just took my second dose and no metal taste...a little upset stomach.

I did just let this get the best of me, I waited to long to go to the drs, and then when I finished my first course of antibiotics I waited to long to go back when I was relapsing. So I am taking good care of me now. Chicken soup and lots of juice.

Thanks all for your input and well wishes!
