Bi-Sexual Categories?

I was just wondering why there aren't any bi-sexual categories on Lit. My newest storyis a Group sex story that has straight and bi-sexual male sex. I've gotten several complaints telling me that I should have put it in Gay Male.

I didn't because it's not a 'Gay Male' story. There's a woman in there and I feel it fits better in Group Sex. If there were a bi-sexual category I would have put it there.

Is there a reason or is this just the way it is?

The regrettable thing is, regardless if you warn your readers ahead of time, there will be those who read just enough to be sure they get offended, then rip you up and down for it. So, a warning isn't a sure bet that it'll keep the nuts from getting their panties in a twist, but it's the only way to hedge your bets.

I and several other writers out there feel your pain. The lack of a definitive category for male bi stories (they never bitch about the girls getting it on together, do they?) means that some really great stories get tanked by the kind of people you're talking about. Not every story with MM contact is a gay story, but the people that would lump them all together like that aren't able to read beyond that one aspect. By that same estimation, a big percentage of the group, loving wives, and incest stories should be crowded into the lesbian category, because there's far more girl-girl content in the common story on this site than there is boy-boy.

Don't let them get you down. Keep writing your bi male stories, and put them in whatever category seems appropriate. One thing you have to realize: you can try all you want, take every precaution, write the best damn story you or anybody else could ever write, and you're going to find somebody who ignores your warnings, and narrows your story down to one line that he or she takes exception to, and that will be all your story means to them.

There is hope, though. Imagine my surprise when a story of mine, with an incredible amount of bi male content, won story of the year for 2004 in the group category. I like to think that that's because those of us who read and write this type story try to stick together and support each other, since we *are* sort of the "odd man out."

Have you checked out the thread "Best MMF Story" over on the GLBT forum? That's become a place to keep like-minded individuals apprised of stories with this kind of content, since there typically *is* no definite way to tell a bi story until you get into it. Both the authors of such stories and anybody who stumbles across them can, and are encouraged to, notify the folks on the thread of bi stories.

Well, how's that for rambling on ad nauseum? I'll have to check your story out. I'm sure it isn't as tragic as the closed-minded types would make it out.

Sorry about your story getting flamed.

Awhile back I posed a question about there not being a bisexual category to one of the site editors, Laurel. She gave a reason why, something to do with logistics or something the other. I didn't quite understand or didn't really want to once I didn't hear what I wanted (that bisexual category was imminent). She did suggest to make use of the story tags so that others interested in bisexual male stories (bisexual male oral, bisexual male sex, etc.)

I just post my story in whatever category the big sex scenes appear. If it's mainly focused on male/male pairing then I put in the Gay Male (GM) category with author's note stating it's a male bisexual story. Visa versa if it's mainly a female/male pairing, I put in what category other than GM it fits. Of course no warning necessary for female/female and unfortunately as you found out, your story will be unfairly flamed wherever you put it if it contains male bisexuality.

I'd say it's a cultural thing. Male bisexuality is extremely taboo. Female bisexuality is highly embraced (at least in the form of a woman who prefers men but likes to play with women now and then). The converse is clearly not widely accepted.

In the minds of most readers, male on male sexual contact makes a story gay. Female on Female doesn't have the same effect. The opposite is probably true, any story that involved male on female sex wouldn't be lesbian.

Just be glad it's not a Loving Wives story...

I wish she would just create the category anyway, and let us post to it- and move our stories into it one by one.
