White liberals think school integration is a good idea, but they manage to avoid sending their children to public schools with lots of blacks in them.
They think integrated housing is a good idea, but they live in neighborhoods where housing prices keep nearly all blacks out.
They think the problem is not black crime; it is police brutality. Nevertheless, they have lived, gone to school, and worked in safe - which is to say white - neighborhoods, so they have never been the victims of black criminals.
To a white liberal diversity is dining in nearby Ethiopian and Thai restaurants. It is a Chinese American family next door, where the son attends MIT, and the daughter studies classical ballet. To the white blue collar workers disdained by white liberals, diversity is having attended a black majority public school. It is being a victim of black criminals. It is losing job opportunities because of affirmative action policies.
