Hi all

I've started my first attempt at writing fiction in over thirty years. Have been mostly doing corporate and academic writing in that time. It's time to stretch out the creative muscles :)

I have a coming of age story about a (I hope) likeable and admirable young man taking the journey from isolated abuse/bullying survivor to a leader of his peers. It includes intrigue, romance, crime and action.

The prologue reveals a significant event from the protagonist's past, and a more recent event involving villainous characters. These two scenes set up the start of the story.

In Chapter 1, the protagonist experiences an event that triggers his journey from loner into group member and friend. Several story threads and characters that will become important, are also introduced.

The story has a central theme of love and redemption through cooperation and compassion. The Island is both a significant setting for the story and a metaphor for our hero's human condition and journey.

The sex scenes in the first two segments are somewhat limited as the focus is more on setting up the characters, relationships and story arc.

I'm looking for a beta reader who can give me feedback on characters and pacing. Also, where you think the plot might or should be headed. I have my ideas but would love to hear yours.

The prologue is 8000 words and Chapter is 14000 words.

Kind regards

Fox

I can give it a read, but it might take until next weekend. If that works, just message me with how you want to get it to me.

Yep, I understand that. The protagonist is a few months shy of eighteen but won’t have any sex until he reaches 18. He’s currently learning how to navigate friendship so even non-sexual romance will be out of scope for the first couple of chapters.

He’s younger than his peers and they will be the ones (out of sight of him) who’ll be doing the business.

I anticipate he’ll reach 18 by about Ch5.

Don't forget the eighteen year age rule. A teen coming of age story is going to be borderline here on Lit.
